Buster Onley was on Sports Center this morning discussing the possibility that A Rod will sign with the Marlins. Isn't that counter productive for A Rod? If he wants to eventually pass Barry Bonds and become the Home Run King doesn't he need to sign with a team that has a hitter friendly ballpark?

i doubt that it will happen. i wonder what they would do defensively? would they put arod at third, hanley at ss, and miggy at 1b??? even if arod played at florida for 10 years, he would still break the home run record.

It will never happen. Only one team in all of baseball has a lower team payroll than the Marlins who were at $30 million this year. A-Rod alone would add another $30 million to that and they still would not even be close to having a winning team. The Marlins need so much help and they could spend that money in a much better way if they had it to spend. Look for A-Rod to stay with the Yankees or go to a team such as the Angels.

Ah yes, one of the sorrier, more sordid side effects of the playoffs -- there is still a complete season-sized contingent of reporters, writers, and talking heads covering the sport, but there's only 8, 4, or 2 teams still playing, with plenty of off days, and there's only so much real baseball news that can be scraped out of the corners. So they start making up this sort of drivel -- oh, there's a source, sure, but the factual basis is nonexistent. Someone makes a casual comment about some random, perhaps amusing, thought; it bounces off someone else in the press room; text messages and cell calls flash across the land; and what was an idle musing becomes an established (and utterly unverified) rumor.
But there are print inches and airtime to fill, so pretty much anything gets used to feed the news beast in such times.
Rodriguez would sooner sign with the Mud Hens for meal money than go to Miami.

Would it not be funny if he went with Boston? Steinbrenner would have and alligator. A good fit also is either LA Dodgers or LA Angels. He will want to stay in a high profile team. Imagine him backing up Guerrero in the lineup. Marlins are out, they couldn't afford him.

It's not a distinct possibility. The Marlins don't generate enough revenue to pay A-Rod. That's why their payroll is what it is. Besides, who wants to play in front of 5,000 fans every night?

A-Rod will sign with San Fran or the Angels...the Giants have already freed up the money by not re-signing Bonds...California will make an offer. He's not ready to go home YET and there are too many questions about the marlins franchise.

They are having a hard time in keeping Willis and other players. I don't see how they would sign A-Rod. Teams say that they like certain players. To make there fans get excited. Than when they don't sign him. They will say that the money was to much. This is something that owners and gm's say.

How can the Marlins possibly get A-Rod when they only have a $30 million payroll? A-Rod is going to stay with the Yankees, get over it.

I 100% assure you that Scott Boras is not going to let his prized possession play for the Florida Marlins. I hear he's looking at Chicago Cubs.

A Rod makes more money in a year than the entire Marlins team, I think you heard wrong, this will never happen, and it doesnt matter where he plays, as long as he stays healthy he will crush the "homerun record"
