I got suspended today from my job for sending an email to a co-worker. The email simply stated that no one likes you why don't you quit. I sent that email on my own time from my own personal computer. The email recipient contacted Human Resources and Security and they investigated and dug deep to find me. They found me. Said it took her a week longer to find me due to my using a proxy server.

My question....How can I be suspended and possibly fired for such a email? An email that I did at home, my time, my computer. I just don't understand it. Nothing threatening or anything like that. No one likes this person. Please tell me what i should do at this point? I'm suspended until further investigation. I can't be on the property or anything. All of this for an email that read " No one likes you. Why don't you quit?" Please advise.

I was confident that it wasn't threatening. It wasn't. I just didn't want anyone to know it came from me.

If you were confident in what you were saying and that it was not threatening and "nothing was wrong with it," then why did you send it "hidden" using a proxy server?? You knew. Bite the bullet.

When some one gets an email from a so called stranger or co-worker , it gets treated as an personal attack. it could be called harassment, if the company didn't take action they could be held responsible for what ever happens in the future, this is a free country and people should be able to express their feelings ,
when you said in your email " No one likes you,"
I personally dont see why that would hurt someone or scare them.

Sorry to say this, but it's not what you did on your own time that caused you to get suspended/fired. It is your association with the company that led to what you did on your personal time that led to your suspension. So, the bottom line is -- it may have been your personal time, home computer, but it was your employment affiliation with the company that led to your personal time activities, thus, I am afraid one is now directly linked to the other. You were wrong, accept it, learn from it and move on. Best of luck to you!

Why did you risk your job....you must really be vendictive. Where do you get the right to send an e-mail. Since you don't see the big deal over your e-mail why did you try and hide and not send it from your work computer?

Now you need to get an attorney and start looking for another job, you are probably going to be fired.

start looking for another job, im sure you are done there, even if it was done at home and all,,,,,you are still sending that email to someone you work work with, and they happened to feel threatened by it....my best friend was almost in the same situation, when he got back from suspension they had his desk packed up in a box and papers for him to sign....good luck....

You are a workplace bully. People like you make me sick, and that kind of behaviour isn't tolerated in the business world. You say, "No one likes this person". Is that your place to judge? What kind of immature idiot are you, anyways? You are obviously not very professional, and if you were my employee, I would have fired you myself and then escorted you off the company premises, told you NOT to return, and not to expect references. Just consider yourself fortunate you don't work for me.

Company's want team players. This e-mail indicates you are not. Also, you created a hostile work environment for your co-worker. Sorry to say, but your are toast. Look for another job.

It is still harassment and creation of a hostile work environment, even if done off premises.
