Rain starting near Winnipeg Canada and stretching all the way down below New Orleans. How often does that happen?

It's not that uncommon. If you get a frontal boundary, with cool, dry air that encounters a plume of warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico, you can have showers and storms all along the boundary. If the warm, humid air stretches from Louisiana all the way to Canada, then, there you go.
