how I handled this situation?

While I was visiting my parents yesterday, my mom mentioned that she was in the mood for Taco Bell but didn't feel like driving. So I offered to go. She took me up on my offer, so off to Taco Bell I went. While I was there, I bumped into someone who I haven't seen in several years. (We were never friends but attended the same middle school.) After the "how are ya" and "whatchya been up to" routine, she blurted out this question: "So, do you still like black guys?" Well, lots of people have always known me as being attracted to black guys. But, since I was never close to her in any way, I thought her question was rude. Nonetheless, I responded politely by saying, "Just one, and I married him." (continued under "details")

Then, out of nowhere, the irritating ***** asked, "So is it true that black men get turned on when your p***y farts?" My response was, "I don't know what vile source you get your info from, but #1 what people do in their private lives is none of your business and #2 I'm giving you the benefit of ending this conversation and pretending that you never asked this question." She didn't say anything else to me. (GOOD FOR BOTH OF US!)

I've heard MANY asinine stereotypes but not this one. Have any of you ever heard it? Do you think I handled the situation appropriately? I ask this because I feel a bit guilty that I didn't argue against the stereotype.

I apologize if anyone is offended by the question. It truly is NOT my intention to upset anyone. I'm merely sharing an experience that I had and asking for input. Thank you in advance for your understanding. ☺

LOL....that's a new one on me. I've never heard that one before.......and I'm a white woman married to a black man! There are so-o-o many ignorant stereotypes out there...just like I must be fat & ugly....my husband must be one of the ugly "brothas".....and he must also be unemployed, or in jail, yada yada yada. None of these are true. You handled yourself with alot of class. Props to you!

Wait. Let me close my mouth first. I cannot BELIEVE she had the nerve to ask that!
No, I've never heard of that stereotype before. I'll have to add that one to my mental Rolodex.
Don't feel guilty about not defending the stereotype. Hopefully she caught the hint that her question wasn't worth a response.
Being in an interracial marriage, I'm sure you put up with a lot of stupid crap like that...and I'm also sure that you know from experience that you simply cannot fight every battle.
I think you handled the situation well.

~peace love & light, sister!~

you encountered the off-line [[non-internet]] version of a troll.

you did good.

no reason to feel guilty. how could you have argued against the stereotype? it would have been like trying to knock down a brick wall with a tooth pick. that kind of stupidity is motivated by the desire to be stupid. don't feel guilty. there was nothing you could do to change her mind or make her reconsider her garbage thoughts.

she would have gotten a effin knockout from me if i were you. you're a damn good person.

You handled yourself very well. I am mixed (black and white) and I have only dated black men and have never heard that stereotype. That person was very rude and disrespectful and you handled the whole situation better than I would have!

Good morning! I'm sorry this happened to you and I agree with the above posts -- you handled yourself very well. Please, continue to be your mature self and behave above ignorant comments. My 20+ class reunion was held this past summer. I tried to go but couldn't due to work schedules. I received e-mail from all over the U.S. and globe. Some individuals do not change -- they remain ignorant all of their lives and refuse to grow up. There were some ignorant jokes made at the expense of certain groups of people -- I immediately blocked their e-mail and wrote to our reunion committee. Please continue to be professional. Wishing you and your family the very best in life! :D

Wow, my high school reunion is coming up and I don't know if would have the tenacity to deal with that kind of effed up frankness.....it wasn't just a stereotype, it was sexual and I can't believe someone you haven't seen in years would have so little tact. You handled it well.

I have never heard that one but can tell you that you dealt with the situation much better than I would have. It never ceases to amaze me how stupid people can be. I know I'm wrong for thinking this way but that snatch would have gotten a beat down from me. I have to applaud you for your restraint.
