At most places if you produce an online degree they would laugh. Its because their are many bogus or easy to get online degrees that don't give an employer or a university and evidence that you actually know anything. If you don’t have a hard copy and a transcript practicably with some referees from the institute in question you may as well not bother.

I don't know of any company that will not accept ANY online degrees. For example, if you graduated from (I don't know of they even have such a program) the University of Missouri with an online bachelor's degree, and your diploma did not differentiate between the online and on-site courses, it would not be a problem. There are many companies, however, which will either not accept, or which will look down upon, diplomas from online for-profit universities, like Capella or the University of Phoenix, or which may think twice before accepting a diploma which differentiates a school's online from its onsite programs.

You would actually be surprised. A lot of universities, to include some Ivy League colleges, have created online programs. If you received a degree from a college in any of their online programs it would NOT state on the diploma that you were an online student.
Of course, if you received a degree from someplace like Bumf**k Online School of Brain Surgery, you probably should not expect to get that surgeon position.
In short, don't be so quick to judge the different modalities of teaching or learning.

We have 8,000 employees and we require regionally accredited degrees to apply. I have never heard of a company that would turn away a qualified applicant (the degree is just one piece of the puzzle) and nobody has identified one of the supposedly "many" companies that do.
Accepted - yes. Preferred - depends.

I've heard that they are not accepted by most companies, and those that do don't view them the same way as degrees from regular schools.

The truth is they are bullsh*t degrees. So, logically, some people won't accept them as the real deal. Use common sense, what would you think of an online degree if you were hiring someone? Personally, I would look upon it with jaundiced eyes.
