I just bought my first home ever, and was setting up my utilities (gas/power). They told me I would get a discount of 20% off my bill if I set up my utilities as "Interruptible service".

Does anyone have this service or "had" this service? Does it really save you money?

In your experience how often do they interrupt your service and for how long?

Is it really worth it in the long run "Savings wise" to do this?

Any other information you can tell me about this?

I have this deal through DTE ENERGY in Detroit.

I have never had that, but it doesn't sound great, does it? I would ask them how often and for what reasons does it happen. What would happen if they turned off your heat in the winter and your pipes froze? Will they pay to fix it? Good luck!!

DTE should not even be offering this residentially. If you have interruptible power agreements, your gas and/or electric supplies might be cut off when you need them most. This is an absurd arrangement, and surely not worth a paltry 20% discount.
