Depends on which war and which side you were fighting on.
If no one defended the rest of the world fromHitlers army, most peopletoday would be dead,or slaves. Be more appreciative of your elders, respect them, and hear their stories as you have it lucky.

Because it's true. It wasn't them that started the war, wars are started by the few who are in power and then expect the ordinary people of that country to fight for them. And anyway I think you'll find the 2nd world war was started by Adolf Hitler, not the OAP's in England. If they hadn't fought then Hitler would have invaded England, so I'd say they've got a right to bang on about it, we owe them a lot.

"Generation" is a very general term. You need to understand why the war happened in more detail as it was not simply people starting it. Too many people consider just the small piece of knowledge that they have as the whole truth - this is an extremely dangerous attitude to take.

Until you have lived during a London Blitz, seen all the

streets of houses, schools , whole blocks of builings

destroyed, incendary fire bombs, doodle bug jet driven

bombs, rockets, never knowing when one is going to fall to

end your life, the sound of sirens, anti- aircraft gun-

fire, searchlights ,blackouts, rationing, you will never know .

If it was not for the bravery and courage of your grandparents

and their generation the whole world would have been under

the Nazi heel and all non-aryan or slightly imperfect person,

over time, on a slippery slope including many more, even

yourself, depending upon your own imperfections would

have been killed.

Every generation must learn about it or else history will

repeat itself.

Old people can bang on about what they like, they are old, they are entitled to.
It wasn't really the soldiers, the landgirls or any member of the forces that started the wars. It was people that were basically f***** in the head.

Because, if it's someone who fought in a war, or were in the military, it TRUE. If we didn't have those people who went and fought for our freedom and our rights, what do you think it would be like here today? Think hard...about all of your freedoms that we have here that many other countries don't have. Some places women can't even show their faces in public, you don't have the freedom to worship, to vote. Just think about it.

Earned it. Only from the USA death rate in WW11: 33% of combat and frontline support troops perished. Russians 75%, Chinese, British colonial, British Regular and Commonwealth, French colonial, Polish, and so many others had terrible rates. 75 million civilians and military deaths, as most closely determined.

For the simply reason - you would not be here being able to ask a question or to give your opinion.

You, my friend, need to read a few more books....OH! I forgot, if it wasn't for them you wouldn't have any books neither - well not the ones you may want to read anyway!

Go away and learn a lot.

it's probably a warning to us to make sure we don't end up electing politicians stupid enough to get in that kind of mess again.
my father was a happy teenager bumming round pre war bristol getting drunk and getting laid until he got called up for ww2.
but 5 years in combat, seeing your mates killed beside you, bitten by snakes and catching every possible tropical fever would mess up anyones head for the rest of their life.
while he lived, i suffered his long winded stories over and over, i think that was the least he deserved.
