A map.
I can read and it keep my mind working (so I won't end up with dementia earlier than I should)

It should be absolutely fine (as it was with my old TomTom), the software is usually used for updating the TomTom (maps etc), saving planned routes and associated things. It would be a fairly dangerous design if you could cause the TomTom to fail by uninstalling the software (one failed HDD/power cut = major lawsuit =D)

I kind of plan using a map, then find that someone has moved things around.... so I have to revert to plan two....that is find someone who looks like they know where they are going and follow them! Its great fun.... never end up where I am supposed to be....get a big adventure out of it hun!

I use both, just like I wear belt and braces, I don't get lost and my trousers don'.t fall down. Unfortunately, there are still faults in both, quite often a turn in the road becomes a right turn on the sat. and can fool you. If you have both really you cannot lose and they are no trouble to obtain.

Depends if I am travelling on my own or not!!
If I have someone with me, then I find it easier to have a route plan printed out for them to read.... keep's them occupied!!
If I am on my own, then I tend to just go it alone, and then I don't have anyone stressing... and I find it easier to look at roadsigns when I am on my own too!!!! :o)

When I'm going somewhere that I don't know how to get to, I use map-quest for directions.
