Derek Jeter 322-12-73 with 102 runs scored and 15 stolen bases had another good year, but the highest rated shortstop this past year was not Jeter, Rollins, Reyes or any of the more familiar names most would associate as the best. The best this year was Hanley Ramirez, the 23 year old shortstop from the Marlins. His numbers were 332-29-81 with 125 runs scored and 51 stolen bases. Not only can he hit but he is a very good defensive player and one of the best base runners in the game. Not too many will agree with me now but in a few more years I believe many fans of the game will be taking a much closer look at Hanley Ramirez.

Well , I' m going to disagree with you because I believe there are better , YOUNGER , shortstops in baseball , today !
But , there' s no doubt in my mind that the MLB journalists and sports writers WILL choose Derek Jeter to receive ' The Golden Glove Award ' , again this year .
I guess a 2nd reason is .... I Hate The Yankees ! !

Obviously everyone forgot about the guy who has the most HR's as a SS. He's also the guy who is still in the Post-Season, crushing HR's left and right off of NY and BOS.
That would be the man, Jhonny P.

lol.
Jeter isn't even the best shortstop on his own team.
Also, no one really knows if you mean defensively, offensively, all round, on ALL of those cases, Jeter is not the first choice.
As Frizzer pointed out, Ramirez had better #'s across the board over Jeter. Reyes led in SB, Rollins in HRs.
Defensively, there are many superior. In fact, I believe Jeter finished last in the AL in both Range Factor and Zone Rating this year.
So, while you are entitled to your opinion, there is certainly 'dought' about it.

Derek Jeter....I DOUBT it.
Welcome to 2007. It is a laugh riot how everyone can blame Torre, A-Rod, and others for the Yankees failing to win a World Series in the last 7 years. Hasn't Jeter been there that whole time, and his stats haven't been all that impressive. And do not give me the intangible crap either because that hasn't worked either.
As of right now it is Jose Reyes

Jeter is overall due to his tenure but, Hanley Ramirez is a great young short stop with super numbers across the board on a bad Marlins team.

I think it is A Rod.
He could go back over to short for any team except for the Yankees, and be better than who they have right now
(Ok this might be tough for the 3 R's in the NL East Reyes, Rollins, Rameriez) But I would rather have A Rod on my team than those 3 guys any day.
