They have a very poor president with an approval rating in the 20-24% range and they cannot beat him at ANYTHING. They are so scared of the reps painting them as soft and weak that they dont do a damned thing and run the risk of losing the whole ball game to the GOP next year. Why cant they see this?

It's like the Republicans play the game of politics to win, and Democrats play "not to loose." It's disheartening when the people who are correct on the issues don't push them forward because of fear.

Because everyone thinks they are a do nothing Congress. What people don't seem to realize is that as long as the Resident has the power of Veto and the Republicans are too chicken to stand against him the Democrats really can't do anything.

Oh well, have the Republicans stand with Bush on his Veto of S-Chip and that sound of the gavel you hear is the last gasp of breath of the Repubilcan power over the US.

Democrats are not weak. The problem is that there are many Republican Neocons in both houses which keep supporting blood thirsty war criminal Bush. Neocons are against anything good and humane and they keep to object to everything good and decent what Democrats are trying to do. So that the real problem is not with the Democrats, but only with the evil Republicans which deliberately stay on Democrats way.

Dem's weak ?? It would seem the other way to me ! Republicans have had control and made a complete mess of things . They refuse to speak against King Bush . I would say they are weak ! Afraid to vote against him . You surely are aware he pays his cabinet for the first time in history . And doubled his own pay . Is he twice as good as other presidents ?

The Democrats have a President?

They are weak because they have no core values. They try to be all things to all people even when what different people want conflict. It has culminated in what I call "focus group politics". This was started by Bill Clinton's people and now those same people are on board the Hillary campaign. They test every syllable with focus groups to see what they like and then repeat it publicly.

As we saw with Bill, that is not leadership. In fact, consensus taking is the abdication of leadership. It is what causes people, like Hillary, who subscribe to it to keep changing their position. It is sort of like seeing a parade already in progress and running out in front of it and acting like you are leading it. The parade changes direction and you have to scramble to get out in front again.

On the other hand, you have great leaders, like President Reagan, who actually had strong core beliefs and really led the parade. That is why he received an even larger landslide vote in his bid for re-election.

Why are the Democrats so weak?

Democrats in Congress are doing what Hillary did during the Clinton administration when she proposed her health care plan- trying to force it down our throats.

Where is the compromise promised by candidates seeking to bridge the divide?

Where is the leadership to get things done?

Where did all the campaign promises go?

Democrats promised the world and, as usual, delivered nothing. They promised to end the war, yet even the presidential candidates refuse to comment as to when they would pull our troops out- even Barack Obama.

They lied.

The approval rating of Congress is lower than that of the president- no wonder.

The answer is very practical and simple. They're not weak in will or determination, but they need 70 votes to override Bush's vetoes in the Senate and they don't have enough votes. The Republicans repudiate Bush when campaigning, but won't vote to override the vetoes. The Democrats need more House and Senate seats to have power. Being the majority isn't enough, they need a greater majority.

The Dems are weak for the reasons you stated. They have no backbone, they have yet to do anything innovative and they are just itching to get into the White House. And for what? To bide their time for 4 years and then run feverishly for office again. They're like Stupidniks. I'll take Guiliani or McCain over that bs anyday.

Because both party's are one in the same, the myth as been exposed!!!
Vote third party.........FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

The "land of the free" is a truly unique and baffling place. Where else would people unconcerned over their vehicles single-digit gas mileage send their youth off to die for the cheap oil needed to run them? Where else can a war on terrorism be fought through more shopping? The home of the brave is a place where going to war to keep the Humvee tanks filled is seen as both desirable and an entitlement by virtue of UStatesian consumership. Citizenship is old thinking Big Brother says. Those who do not shop are not with us. Thanks to school, freedom is mom's Apple Pie, Nike sneakers and a Humvee in every driveway. 21st century UStatesians proudly take out $50,000 plus loans to purchase Humvees. We are free to purchase these 6,400 pound military behemoths masquerading as luxury passenger vehicles. But, we have no clue how to calculate their gas mileage, nor how many lives per gallon it takes to run them.

More people than ever question the broken two party system. More people than ever see presidential elections as frauds perpetrated by a one party system offering two similar options: candidates of privilege and wealth, puppets of megacorps who occupy the government.

The Republican and Democratic parties enable each other for they are beholden to the same cash cows that finance both their campaigns. Every favor deserves a return on investment. Such duplicity of the duopoly brought us the PATRIOT Act, NAFTA, the WTO, No Child Left Behind, and the War on Iraq.
