I think the whole world has learnt a lesson about British parents (and I believe the wrong lesson). A couple of US colleagues explained to me that most Americans now believe that the UK has extremely low child welfare standards. This belief is based on how the British press and the majority of the public responded to the fact that the children were 'abandoned' in an apartment. They are surprised there was virtually no criticism of the parents. I'm told that in American parents who have left children in a hotel bedroom and gone to the bar have been prosecuted. They really seem to think that in the UK we all view leaving toddlers 'home alone' as normal.

yes they learnt that unlike their nation, this country isnt so ram packed full of paedophiles .... what more can i say .. are we all sure its got nothig to do with a portugese official .. ??!!!
i smell sh!te everywhere on this case ....
the poster obviously has nothing better to do, than string a few words together, in the hope that somebody , will be psychologically capable fo working out, how such things can be said for attention.
The only conclusion i can draw, is that the poster was neglected as a child or is neglecting one a the moment, no other scenario, apart from lunacy, would derive such conclusions.
aS You are saying all British parents are calous, neglecting murderers .. good luck with the reading
it is kinda prejudice / racist . against a whole nation of British People

It's not just the "British." Everywhere there are people who have kids who are not prepared financially, psychologically, personally to undertake such a responsibility. We have examples all the time of welfare moms popping them out to increase their take. And what about the Ramseys in Boulder, Colorado. I'm sure other countries have many horrific examples, too. It's not a national or racial thing. We all have good and bad. Human nature knows no borders.

Nationality isn't the issue here! I think the biggest lesson they will have learnt is the impact their secrecy laws have on a high profile case. Due to the lack of their ability to report developments on the case constant "leakages" have been reported, non of which can be cited as a credible source, these constant "leakages" have in turn damaged the case and the probability of solving the case. It has also left the PJ looking completely incompetent, this is where their lesson is

Why have you generalised and lumped all British Parents in as neglectful and irresponsible? Whether or not the McCanns did kill Maddy, they were still neglectful and should be prosecuted for child neglect in any case.
However, that's got nothing to do with them being British. The way you have phrased your question is terribly ignorant.

The Portugese should first deal with their terrible paedophilia problem before they start throwing stones at anyone else. Apparently a large number of Portugese children go missing every year and the suspicion is that they've been abducted by paeodophiles.

Mary's right...
How on earch can you categorise all British parents by the same yardstick as the McCanns.
Am certain there are parents of other nationalities who would have done, are doing & will do just what the McCanns did. Sad but true & harsh reality.
Babies should never be left unattended.

I agree with Jack, I dont see what the 'racist overtones' are?
Edit: Mary - If you are going to try and attempt to insult me or whatever it is that you are doing, please at least try and spell my name right.
*** I agreed with Jack's comment. Insults and huge rants are not necessary. The best I can do about what? I am not trying to do anything other than point out if you are trying to insult me at least spell my name properly for crying out loud. As for stealing points, who am I stealing them from? I dont particularly care about points, what good do they do anyway? Now we all know why you are here though. You really need to get a hobby or something you take this far to seriously. Oh and congrats on the spelling.
