what does it mean. i couldn't figure it out. is the dad abusive or something? argh, plz tell me what it means.

The fact that the woman breaks free of the bonds and the child goes back to bed in seeming comfort, to me means that the woman faced her demons (of sexual abuse as a child?) and is able to go to bed at night without evil dreams.

First of all, the woman being hospitalized and the little girl are the same person. The beginning of the song represents the girl's previously happy life, and then another man (in a red sweater) traumatizes her- implied molestation. It has a profound effect on her, hence the black handprints all over her. Her parents are blind to this. Later in life, he's still "holding her down"- she may be in a mental institution, or a hospital for a drug OD. Perhaps she commits suicide (the butterfly and the pills) or perhaps the lead singer/black angel manages to convince her she can get rid of the memory of the red-clad man (the black angel fighting with the man). It's not the father. It's another male in the child's life. The two people dancing in circles are her mother and father and the tape over their eyes mean they were blind to what was happening. They didn't know. She's a victim of sexual abuse, where the black handprints and such.
