Madeleine? If they believe she is dead and died on the 3rd of May, why haven't they turned up her body yet? Why can't they find her - dead or alive?
The whole of Praia Da Luz & Portimao should have been scoured by now by any means.
They should just face facts. The child has been abducted and taken OUT of Portugal.
I think it comes down to FUNDING. They can't afford it.
The case of Holly Wells & Jessica Chapman cost around £1million to solve. Do the Portimao police have this sort of budget for such serious crime? I think not.

Sammie.
How would you have reacted at the time of Jessica & Holly if the British Police had carried on like the PJs? Do you remember the daily reports on the search for Holly & Jessica? The helicopters, the sniffer dogs, the search of the school, the interception of Huntleys Mobile phone use, BEFORE he was collared?
Selective memory me thinks.

Snaffle. There is no excuse for not carrying out a thorough search and investigation.
Look at the size of England. The police found Holly & Jessica....And Sarah ...
I did NOT seen any helicopters flying around Praia at the time. Did you?

Angel. What a shame you gob off but block email.
The moors murders were more than 35 yrs ago. Technology was not as it is now. Forensics didn't exist. However, ALL BUT ONE of those victims have now been recovered & that is because Hindley is dead and Brady can't pin point the spot. The senile old C**T
So.. who knows nothing?

I agree. Why didn't the portuguese get helicopters out straight away to search the land. Why wasn't the apartment completely sealed off immediately. The McCanns were allowed to stay in there for several days after and then it was cleaned out and re-let.
Why wasn't the Spain - Portugal border shut down immediately. Why did it take 50 minutes for the Hotel Manager to call the police (even though he told Dr Kate that he had done it straight away) was he assisting a get-away?
Why did the equivalent of the CID (PJ's) take 3 hours to arrive at the Ocean Club resort and a further 3 hours to set up an incident room? Why were the first police on the scene no more than community support officers?
I think the Portuguese , if anyone , are involved in a cover up. The 50 minutes to call the police is the main issue for me. Why was he dragging his feet to call them??????

Mary, Mary I agree with you and I believe funding is the cause. I wonder why the Madeleine Fund has not used the money given to help in the search for Madeleine though? I do not know how the fund is administered, but if I were one of the parents (God forbid) I would be begging for money to hire Private Investigators, etc. I also think that the PJ had no idea of how big this case would become and perhaps did not use all the resources they should have at the beginning of this case. A lot of the searches and tests, etc, seem to have been done months after the event.

I am very pleased you are asking this question. You have already mentioned the failings of the Portuguese police and I agree with you. Unfortunately if she has been abducted, which I believe, then she was probably taken out of potugal a long time ago.

Because it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Holly and Jessica were only found because a passerby walking his dog spotted something suspicious.
According to the director of the PJ, money is no object - they want to solve this case.
There is a clause in Portuguese law that states they can claim monies back from guilty parties for creating false leads. Maybe they have their eyes on that fund...
EDIT - I remember seeing Mark Williams-Thomas give his opinion on the search early on in May. He said the huge scale of the search was unprecedented in Portugal and it was certainly something that even we in the UK had ever seen. At that time though, they were looking for an abducted child, maybe the reason the reservoir and similar areas weren't adequately searched.

This child was 3 years old. Do you know the square meter size of her body compared to the square meter size of Praia da Luz and Portimao.
If you work out what percentage of that area would be taken up with her body, then factor in that she may well be below ground or water I thnik that might answer why she hasn't been found.
You say 'face facts' that she has been taken out of Portugal. The choice of the word 'fact' may be a little on the optimistic side.
**Mary that is a ridiculous statement and you know it. There were no helicopters looking for H&J in the pitch black. In this country police officers call off searches at sundown. On the night of Madeleines disappearce there were in the region of 130 police officers searching for her as well as the majority of the town. I don't remember your claim to actually being there so I'm not sure how you would have expected to see a helicopter search anyway.
“ (...) By late afternoon the hunt for Maddy had intensified with helicopter crews, firemen and maritime search teams involved. A special criminal investigation team from the Policia Judiciria was travelling down from Lisbon. Sky News weather presenter Jo Wheeler said local police had been giving out maps and telling people where to look. She said: ‘It's very well organised." - The Mirror, May 5, 2007;

There is no evidence of an abduction whatsoever ..
Kate came up with this theory ..
You know and i know that bodies can be hidden and lie undiscovered for many many years
The person who has hid the body is intelligent
It is not about funding at all ...
They are going down every avenue and looking at every angle
you can not rush professionals in doing their job
EDIT selective memory lol ..
The two case are worlds apart ..
What we have to remember is we are not dealing with our own forces ..
We are dealing with foreigners and because our government are involved that adds extra complications
Yes things could have been done different .. but look at Stephen Lawrence and the handling of his case .. look at the Brazilian man shot dead ..
It is easy to blame the Portuguese police and their failings
I believe they are doing everything they can and will succeed
Just remember they wasted many months and resources
looking for an abducted child and investigating Robert Murat
I recall mistakes were made in the holly and jessica enquiry
Ian huntley was not vetted and allowed to be involved in the investigation
Everyone can make errors especially in such a high profile case
Ps his name is keith bennett

Because someone thinks they are being very clever.
I think you and a lot more like you will soon be eating their
words. The McCanns should remember the saying.
CRIME DOES NOT PAY.
There is never smoke without fire. There is always an element of truth in what the papers say . One just has to read between the lines. Please dont try to tell me that the British and Portuguese police are in colusion. If as you say they havent searched enough. Then why have they all this DNA that is being analysed, are you trying to say this does not cost money. If it is lack of funds as you say. Then why have the McCanns not contributed their fund money. Instead of all this PR hype

Major problems were the fact that the bins were not examined, nor was the site where the rubbish is taken to be disposed. Nor were the sewers examined.
Frankly, this case must be solved, for people to retain their confidence in the police system. The tourist trade must be suffering because of this case.
It is all very well saying that Madeleine wasn't found on the paedophile networks, therefore she must have be murdered by the parents. That doesn't make sense.
Nor according to one expert this morning, does the fact that there were apparently body fluids found in the car. Three weeks after she was found missing. He seemed to think that the parents could be exonerated.
Too many people are far too concerned with statistics - they point out that usually the parents are the culprits. But there are exceptions to every rule. We should keep an open mind until clear evidence proves otherwise.

The search was not good enough, they did not have the expertize to carry out an extensive search, the local bins were not even checked before being sent to landfill sites.
What about the user name "instincts"?
Keep up the posts, you are one of the few who make sense in this crazy place.
