Definaltly. My husband works at a french resturant on the strip and made enough for us to buy a house last year. He wanted to be a teacher but was making more by the time he was 20 waiting tables at a steakhouse than if he went the teacher route. Same thing with my brother, he has a psychology degree but makes more bartending than using his degree. Sad but true. Of course I don't see either of them going into retirement with these types of jobs but they pay the bills and them some for the time being. In my opinion the best paying jobs are all in the service industry...waiting tables, cocktail servers, bartenders, and casino dealers. But it is all about the place you work, fine dining on the strip is your best bet.

The competition with others to get in the restaurants with big tips is cutthroat. You can afford a house in those places even though Las Vegas housing has become expensive.
If you do not have the connections, references, and experience to get in to these restaurant, then either get another marketable skill, move in to an apartment, or go some where else.

It depends on where you work. There are many upscale restaurants there. Remember: tourists aren't always the best tippers. I've known a few people, however, that have made more than enough money waiting tables in Vegas to afford a nice house, SUV, etc.
