it's simple dear...
4y^2+5=12y
or 4y^2-12y+5=0
or 4y^2-10y-2y+5=0
or 2y(2y-5)-1(2y-5)=0
or (2y-5)(2y-1)=0
so answer is.....y = 5/2 or 1/2..............

Ok...
y=ay^2 + by + c
so if
4y^2 + 5 = 12y
then
4y^2 - 12y + 5 = 0
therefore
a=4, b= -12 and c = 5
and since
y= ( - b +/- ( b^2 - 4ac )^0.5 ) / 2a
( ^0.5 means square root whats in the brackets. )
then
y = ( 12 +/- ( -12^2 - 4*4*5 )^0.5 ) / 2*4
y = ( 12 +/- ( 144 - 80 )^0.5 ) / 8
y = ( 12 +/- 8 ) / 8
Two answers are
1) y = ( 12 + 8 ) / 8 = 2.5
2) y = ( 12 - 8 ) / 8 = 0.5
Heh... amended. Missed a minus sign there.

4y^2+5=12y
4y^2-12y+5=0
using quadratic formula (b(+/-) square root of b^2 - 4ac all over 2a) where 4 is a, -12 is b and 5 is c:
12(+/-)square rt of 144-4(4)(5) all over 2(4)
12(+/-)square rt of 64 all over 8
12(+/-) 8 all over 8
you then have: 20/8 and 4/8
simplifying them you have: 5/2 and 1/2
therefore, y=5/2 and y=1/2

4y^2 + 5 = 12y
4y^2 = 12 y - 5
y^2 = 3y - (5/4)
y = 3 - (5/4)y
4y = 12 - 5y
9y = 12
y = 12 / 9 = 4/3

4y^2 - 12y + 5 = 0
y^2 - 3y = -5/4
By completing square
y^2 - 3y + 9/4 = - 5/4 + 9/4
(y - 3/2)^2 = 1
y - 3/2 = +-1
y = 1 + 3/2 = 2 1/2 -----------{1]
y = -1 + 3/2 = 1/2-------------[2]
