Smoking is legal! Banning is is wrong. There are other things that are just as offensive (obnoxious kids in restaurants) that are not banned. There are other things that cause health issues (too much perfume or cologne can cause an asthma attack). As long as it is legal, it should not be able to be banned.

People who say it is bad must be very selfish. As a non-smoker whose eyes water when surrounded by smoke, I am now enjoying a weekly trip to the pub to take part in a quiz. I haven't been able to do this for years. What about the bar staff, why should they have to work in a smoke filled room. It is better for their health, even if you do not care about yours.

I have no objection to smokers having a room in which to smoke because I know that it is very addictive. They currently smoke just outside the door with the door open and it just wafts back in.

My mother died of lung cancer and believe me it was not a pretty sight. I wish you all the common sense and will power to give up.

i laugh every time I read one of these questions about the smoking ban cause we are so used to it here now. It is shocking to have to stand in the rain for a ciggie when you could be in front of a roaring fire having a pint! As aDylan said ' Do not go gently into that good night'. Fight this bloomin thing if ye really want to. We moaned a lot but just let it slip through without a fight! Dont let it happen!!! And dont listen to Louise K it has made no difference to smokers other than that we only go to pubs with decent smoking shelters or heated beer gardens!

I am a social smoker and belive that there should be designated smoking rooms for smokers.

Public smoking being banned is ok as it is not fair that non-smokers breathe in the toxic air... however I dont see why there cant be set areas for smokers IE: work places not being able to have a smoking room and smokers have to go outside.

Taken away peoples rights yet again, were becoming more and more of a communist state than ever, I stopped smoking over a year ago but feel for those who are desperate for a ciggy and have nowhere to smoke one.

Good-
No more smoking would be less problems (Helathwise)
NO more second hand smoking
No more wasting large amounts of cash per year on cigs
Less stressful

On the off side-
Violence and smuggling would increase because everyone would want their cigs back. So it would be like it is now with illegal drugs, sellin em on the streets at night and killin over it.

It doesn't effect me because I don't smoke! LOL! :-) But if I did, i'd say it was fair in a sense because the government just wants to look after your health better and they think that if you are stopped smoking at such young ages, you won't smoke in the future-therefore you'll have better health! I sometimes wish that my stepdad, brother and mum would stop smoking but they won't! (My brother is 17 and he still is able to get cigarettes by asking other people to get them for him since he's now underage as it's gone up to 18 now) Come to think of it, I do smoke because whenever I pass them smoking, I'm also inhaling the smoke which means that I'm 'passive smoking' and I don't like it at all!

bad. people should be able to have the choice to smoke or not. it's like no junk food law. or no soda law. it's bad, but people still like it. it's not fair to the people who actually enjoy smoking.

It is a good thing but there should be a place for smokers instead of outside as the weather is getting a bit nippy.People don't know how to compromise and it does my head in.
