If being Gay was something you were born with,
then there would be entire gay family trees that stem back from the begining of time.

There is none.

The only people that are trying to prove this are Gay people.
It holds no merit whatsoever.

Gay, is a learned behavior.
Be it from an abusive father, mother, relative, spouse, boyfriend, friend, stranger
From a lack of understanding and fulfillment of a partner, partners
amother or father who raised there child too feminine or masculine, oposed to what the child was.
OR SEXUAL CURIOSITY
The thought of what it would be like
OR a LACK OF gender explanation from early on.
someone missed that birds and the bees talk.

Theres other subcatagories.
But anyone that tries to claim babies are born gay,
is completely and utterly wrong,

and only trying to justify their orientation
or trying to profit from this learned behavior.

And only someone who lacks deductive reasining would even try to argue this.

But try please.
Intelligently.

Thank you forproving my point.
Like when you ask a tough political answer for the republicans you never get a true answer with any facts, just silly opinions and a few name callings.

Apparently the entire straight world is off somehow, and the only logical ones are the gays.

Nice try, but live in denial

RHAB - said 6 of his family members were gay -- tell me thats not suspicious.
Its very suspicious -- someone was probably abusing all of them.

Garrett and those that support him would argue anything just to prove my statement wrong. But still Ive recieved not one intelligent arguement against my statement.

Could it be that there is not one?

Topher...stop challenging because you say so right.
With nothing but 'youre wrong'

Lets prove something Topher....is there anyone in your gene pool thats gay?
In your family tree - is there a regularity that shows people follow a pattern of gay ness?

Prrof enough to prove my theory.

So it must have been learned somewhere huh?
Media, movies, experimentation. Anger, hurt?

I definitely do not believe people are born gay.

born gay? then people are not created equal. Laws, written by people, will make everyone equal, so will a Smith Wesson. God want them to be different, so he made them gay. Maybe evolution have bred a new gene, called gay gene. God made a mistake, oh no! God is never wrong! Ok, so concludes, God took a day off work, maybe took a break to piss. Maybe being Gay a choice that people choose? like Sean Penn would've been a real good gay if he decided to be gay. Like Oscar good gay.

I agree with you to a certain degree....there is currently no evidence of a "gay gene" or make up of genes that makes someone gay but that doesn't necessarily mean that there isn't one, perhaps it just hasn't been found yet. Although taking into consideration all the scientific studies that have actually gone into this I think we can confidently, but not 100% definately, say that there is no gay gene.

However, there was a study conducted that showed a certain part of the brain as being smaller in gay people than in hetrosexual people. This showed as conclusive proof that sexual orientation is, in fact ,biological and not chosen. There is no proof or evidence though as to whether this difference is there at birth or developes over time.

So, in conclusion....there is strong evidence that there is no gay gene but there is no 100% proof. There is a biological difference between gay and heterosexual people that proves that sexual orientation is not chosen but it is not known if these differences are present at birth or nurtured/developed over time.

Just for the record, im a straight female.

Alright, I'll humor you. I'm gay,

I never had an abusive father mother, relative, too young for a spouse, never had a boyfriend, never an abusive friend or stranger. I can assure you that.

I had a father and mother role in my life, both of which always talked about what a "man" should be responsible, a good leader, reliable, etc. I never attached myself to my mother's side, I received essentially equal affection from both parents. I played sports, and played with plenty of "little boy" things.

Sexual curiosity? Nope. I was never attracted to women physically. Never ever, can't understand why people would be. As for guys? When puberty finally hit, something started cranking in my brain and guys became extremely attractive to me.

So, you might want to let me know the subcategories so I can disprove them for me as well.

You obviously have not heard the research if Simon LeVay. He found a neurological connection between the hypothalamus section of the brain and homosexuals. There was another study that even was taken from rams and the gay sheep showed the same result, so it's a connection that crosses species as well.

As for a gay gene. I don't know if there is a gay gene. You don't know if there isn't a gay gene. Why? The Human Genome Project is still mapping them as we speak. And I'm mad people think it has to be a single gene. It could be a VARIETY of different genetic reasons. A series of genes, certain genes becoming "active" when puberty becomes active for sexual development, dominant versus recessive genes, hormones in the womb altering the development of the hypothalamus etc.

Genetics is far too complex to say that a single gene is responsible for homosexuality. The possibilities of biological, neurological and genetic reasons are infinite.

I don't know if there is a "gay gene", but I'd like to point out that you can "inhert" gayness even if your parents aren't gay. Let say if homosexuality is a recessive trait (it may not be true, but let's suppose it is), and both of your parents have a dominant trait and a recessive trait for homosexuality (A/a, where A=dominant, a=recessive), then you have 1/4 possibility of getting both copies of the recessive genes (that would make you gay, but your parents aren't). Of course, things aren't as simple as this (if you are wondering where gay genes can possibly come from, it may come from evolution/mutation. In fact, an advantageous/bad traits comes from mutation of genes). Even if homosexuality is a dominant trait, there can be partial pentrance (certain % of people who have that gene will express that phenotype), expressivity (showing different degree of that phenotype when have that gene), and many many more explanation. Or simply a mutation (note: some mutation is good).
Anyway, I think there is a genetic and environmetal components to it. But yeah, no one has proved that there is a "gay gene". Well, maybe there are mulitple genes that may affect a person's sexuality.

Are people born Left-handed, or do they choose to be Left-handed? Were they made left-handed by a domineering mother?

Obviously they are born left-handed, even if we don't know what "handed" they are until they start to draw, color and write. So when it becomes relevant, the child realizes which "handedness" they are. If a child is forced to use only their right hand, do they become Right-handed? No, they are still lefties who can pass for a "Straight Right-hander"

It's the same with Sexual Orientation. One is born already gay, straight or bisexual, but it isn't relevant until they reach puberty, or a little later, and then they realize they either are attracted to the opposite sex, the same sex, or both (bisexuality correlates to ambidexterousness).

There has always been homosexuals, there are many famous examples going back thousands of years, feel free to look them up..Alexander the Great, Socrates, Michelangelo and Florence Nightingale are but a few examples.

19 OCT 07: A message to me from another user:

Subject: your reasoning attempt for why theres not a gay gene

Message: Greenman -- Im ambidextrous..and so is the my nephew who I taught from early on how to throw a ball, kick a ball, and box.
So there goes your arguement out the window.

My response to that user:

Did you choose to be ambidextrous, or are you just naturally able to use both hemispheres of your body pretty much equally?

I never said they were the same gene. Only that one is born with a particular sexual orientation. Perhaps I should have included Ambidextrous with Lefties and Right-handers, which would analogous to Bisexuality in our discussion.

My central point remains the same, people don't choose their sexual orientation, they are born with it, just as they are born left-, right- or ambi-handed, but we don't know which until it becomes relevant to their lives. Environmental factors do not change a person's sexual orientation, but they do effect how a person exists within their environment that is, whether or not they express their sexual orientation, or act as though their orientation is other than what it is (i.e. a gay person acting straight to hide his real orientation). This is analogous to a left-handed person learning to throw, hit or kick a ball right-handed in order to "fit-in."

-Sorry but this is BS.
It is not a learned behavior. I have no explaination for why I am not attracted to girls, but I never have been. You position is that the parents of gay people did something wrong while raising them. There is no fact of verifiable claim in your question, please stop trolling.

Uh dude, just cos there's a gay gene in the family doesn't mean there all gonna be gay, I mean hello, dying tree there.
I don't know about it being a gene but there is a tendency.
My nan's gay, 3 of my 5 cousins are gay, one of my 3 second cousins is gay, and two of my uncles are gay. I'm gay.
Tell me that's not a little suspicious.

EDIT:
One - I'm a chick, yeesh.
Two - Yeah, one of them had an abusive a**hole of a father. One of them's drug-f****d . The others as far as I'm aware are fine. But whatever. I've not been abused or anything. I can promise you that.
You say that We've all been abused, but then you turn around and use the lack of family homosexuality as proof of your theory, you're being rather contradictory about the entire thing, and you're telling us we can't come up with a logical argument. Come back when you've thought this through.

god ur so stupid. its not a learned behavior. its based on genetics and some environmental factors. ppl are born gay. im a firm believer in fate. everyone of our fates are wrote long before we ever come into existence. some ppl have homosexuality written into our fate. just get over it. and so many ppl are saying the truth here.. the gay gene would be a recessive gene, meaning its in families somewhere but may be covered up by the dominant gene, the straight gene. heres an example, lets say the dominant gene is G, and the recessive is g, as long as someone's genetic makeup in this area is Gg, then there is a chance that as long as their partner's makeup is Gg or gg then there is a chance that the kids could be gay. its called using that technique u learned in science, use a punnett's square. it will tell you the probablility of the child being gay. as long as 2 recessive genes get paired together then the kid is going to be gay. GG is definitely straight, and Gg would probably be bisexual. see how simple it is? now u try it and see how weak ur argument is.

Well there are many different genetic variations and abnormalities. For example the Down syndrome, why aren't there entire family trees all of whom have Down syndrome? A few other examples would include Schizophrenia, Tourette's Syndrome, Clinical Depression.

If you know anything about genetics you would know that many organisms, including humans, have a pattern of inheritance in which each organism has two alleles of each gene, and the organism inherits one allele from each parent. Organisms with two copies of the same allele are called "homozygous", while organisms with two different alleles are "heterozygous".

The set of alleles for a given organism is called its genotype, while the visible trait the organism has is called its "phenotype". When organisms are heterozygous, often one allele is called "dominant" as its qualities "dominate" the phenotype of the organism, while the other allele is called "recessive" as its qualities "recede" and are not observed.

When parents breed to produce children, their children randomly inherit one of the two alleles from each parent. Which means that the alleles of different genes get shuffled between parents to form children with many different combinations.

So say if neither of the parents is homosexual themselves, but both have a recesive gay gene, there is a good possibility of their child being homosexual. But it still would not necceserily mean that their's child's children will be homosexual.

A common view is that mental disorders or 'abnormalities' often result from genetic vulnerabilities COMBINING with environmental stressors. The genes by themselves or the environment by itself cannot determine anything by 100%, however the combination of the two would make the possibility of a person being a certain way much greater.

Hope this answers your question.

I wish I could find a link somewhere for you.

I watched a programme on TV a long time ago about this.

When a child is in the womb, nature decides what sex it should be and sometimes screws up. This is where the gene comes into play. It gives the boy too much of the female gene or the girl too much of the boy gene.

the proof is also where you get a child born with both genitalia.

You will find many gay people wish they were straight, life would be a lot easier for them believe me.
