If technolgy evolved where a parent would know their child would grow up gay, would/could that increase the number of abortions, for that specific reason?

So, if this happens, will gay leaders oppose abortion?

Could this turn into warfare between gay activists and abortion activists? Hmmmmmm....

Don't debate the scientific integrity of the gene, liberals believed in global warning with or without scientific proof; if a liberal starts claiming the gay gene is for real, half of the liberals will believe it regardless of scientific support.

My question is only about the entertainment factor, seeing 2 selfish interest groups (both corrupted by socialism) rip each other apart. I don't care about the gay gene, whether it's real or gays just get sucked into the lifestyle, who cares?

Well, till know no person has ever given a clear answer. First of all, none of us believes that homosexuality is a choice and someone wakes up one day and says: I'll be gay today. It is something that comes up from the body. Now, homosexuality isn't a typical mendelian inherited single gene characteristic, but it is evolving through an interaction of a set of genes from the baby. It is the environment inside the womb that will show the fate of these genes. Details remain to be characterized. Strong evidence lead to that by studies for left-right handedness, majority of gays seems to be left-handed. Moreover many gays have older brothers. The idea that there might be a DNA gay marker to homosexual people that does not exist in straight people's DNA is getting stronger and stronger. Be careful, I referred to a marker not a gene. Marker means a specific DNA nucleotide sequence that does not necessarily encodes for a protein. If this becomes a reality then future parents will be challenged with the idea of abortion in case of this marker being detected at embryonic development. It is the right of the parents to determine whether they want to keep the baby or not. In my view, they can emphasize on the personality, values, decency and good character of their child, sexual orientation is secondary. Moreover, this is also a social issue that demands watching.

No such thing as a gay gene.

Current research is pointing the finger at hormones present in the womb as the cause.

Each time a woman becomes pregnant her body actually stores some of the the child's DNA and in essence tracks how many male children she has, the more boys a woman has the more likely she is to have a gay son.

This isn't a fool proof theory as there are cases of women having many sons and none are gay and there are also first born sons who end up gay as well. There are also cases of twins where one is gay and the other is straight.

But studies have show a noticeable increase of homosexuality in younger sons.

There is no similar link found of this sort among women. One theory of the cause is that a woman's body recognizes the male DNA as foreign and then produces some kind of anti-male .... something that causes or at least contributes to homosexuality.

Personally I think that there isn't just one cause but involves several factors for genetic homosexuality, and perhaps there are degrees of gayness (lol, is that even a word?)

Think about it this way, imagine everyone is born with a number rating 1-10, 1 being 100% straight and 10 being 100% gay. People who are in between (4-7) choose one or the other or choose to be bisexual.

Society favors straight over gay, so more people go in that direction (maybe having homosexual fantasies, or an ocassional one nighter that they keep secret)

Those who are 8-10, well they have a hard time fighting biology and become openly gay (and yes, occassionally have a straight one nighter)

I don't think sexuality is simply genetic there is other factors involved or else there would have to be a bisexual gene as well. But yes im afraid it probably would increase abortions because of homophobia or the fear of there child being victimized when they become teenagers. So that's why i oppose abortions except if going through with the pregnancy and having the baby puts the mothers life at risk. To those who go on about woman's rights where do you draw the line? so its fine for to deny a life because they will grow up gay? sorry but that is Eugenics which was supported by the Nazis.

As far as I know, there isn't a gay gene.

But if there was...I would like to see how them religious people who are against abortion react to it. I mean, there religion doesn't accept gay people, yet it doesn't accept abortion too. But then again, some of them (note: not all of them) are pretty crazy and they'll give the kid up for adoption and pray like crazy or they'll keep the kid and try to make him/her become straight by forcing the bible upon them.

I don't think it will have any affect on gay leaders and their view of abortion. They'll probably be mad if a whole bunch of babies are flushed down the toilet because they're gay, but if they're pro-choice, they'll understand that it's the mother's choice.

I don't think there will be warfare between gay activists and abortion activists.

Oh yeah, and to the guy talking about how if there is a gay gene, then whole families would be born gay. That's bogus. Genes are known to skip generations too. It doesn't affect all kids of the same generation, at the most it might show up in one or two of the kids only.

I would think we are all born with certain pre-dispositions toward certain types of behavior. Maybe being gay is one of them, I don't know.
But there is an integrity and moral issue that also comes into play here in that just because you feel like doing it, doesn't make it right.
I may be predisposed to want to settle an argument by responding in a violent fashion, but that doesn't make it right.
A person may have a strong tendency to want to be involved with a same sex partner but there is a difference between actions and feelings or thoughts.

I suppose that no conservative would ever admit to being gay, just look at Craig, literally caught with his pants down.
I think you have it a bit twisted, that is the proper question would be "Would the religious right order abortions on fetuses found to be gay?"
BTW, a simple thermometer has showed the planet heating up, even Bush has checked the records, the only discussion is as to whether its manmade or natural in origin.

No one has definitely located a gay gene. Speculations at best. The two issues of gayness and abortion are two mutally exclusive issues. Even when parents find out that their babies will be mongoloids, they do not run straight to the abortion clinic.

Do you have another question, Hitler?

That's not how it works, human sexual orientation is more complex than that, sexual orientation whether gay or straight is probably a combination of genetic, hormonal and environmental factors plus a myriad other factors that cannot be pinpointed. Sexual orientation cannot be chosen because of these factors that none of us have control over.

Perhaps anti-gay mothers should abort all baby boys with large penises?

Hate to break it to you MTR 2.0, gays pay to have babies. There is something called a sperm bank, surrogate mothers, and artificial insemination. I know a woman who is gay who has a daughter, and no one knows who the father is. I love this question because it puts liberals in a bind.

Your completely off the mark here.
There is no Gay GENE.

Otherwise we would have a series of gay lineages that stem from the beginning of time.
Gay Family trees.

Since its not the fact, and theres absolutely no regularity that a child is born gay, like some diseases skip a generation....NONE when it comes to being gay.

It proves right there, that Gay is not somethign youre born with.
Its something that is learned.

Only a scientist out for fame woul even entertain this concept trying to make a name for himself.
AND ONLY A PERSON without the ability to deductively reason, would entertain such a question.

someone, please respond intelligently to my claim about if their was a gay gene then why isnt there entire familylineages that are born gay?
