About £70 in sixties money. A very good wage would have been around £25 a week.
So around three weeks wages, equivalent to £1500 or so nowadays.
That would have been for a 15 inch B+W set that took five minutes or so to warm up from cold before you got a picture.
Renting was FAR more common, with a shilling slot meter on the side of the set that you'd have to feed with coins to make the set work. Pay per view isn't a new idea!

Since I have Chevrolet red blood in my veins, I paid $475.00 for a new 25" Zenith ugly console the year I was married.
Today I'm trying to make a decision: Do I go to Sears, Best Buy or Circuit City to buy a Sony KDL - 40 XBR4. Or, do I order from Crutchfield & save $200.00?

Depends on the screen size and where you are.
In the UK a 14 inch model cost around £300 that's about £1300 in today's money.

£75 10/6d, with the funky 425 & 625 wave buttons.
Steve - thanks for correcting me - 405...not 425!
