It can also be the extention of a compiler, such as "VisualBasic . net" (which means the compiler has features to access "the net").

u can not compare .net .php to .com
.net can be two things here im not sure what ur talking about because of the vagueness of the question.
.net can be related to a programming language.. or i can be the extension of a webpage
and .php is a page made in PHP(personal home page) programming language..
.com is NOT a language its just an extension for a web address..
neither of .net .php OR .com are related in ANY way

.php is a file extension and says that the file should be treated as though it were written using the PHP programming language.
.com is a TLD - top-level domain. It is a part of the domain name system.
.net is also a TLD - an alternative to .com.
.NET is a structure for programming languages built by Microsoft. It is basically a framework for building applications or websites using VB or C#.

PHP is a scripting language. It makes dynamic websites that can change automatically, as opposed to simple HTML which generates static, or unchanging, sites. Dot-com(.com) and Dot-net are top level domains, which are used simply for classifying websites (com stands for commercial, net for network).
