Immunization and Antibiotics is "said" to be the 4th best invention, but I consider it to be #1. Most lists consider mechanical clocks to be #1.. Indoor plumbing and toilets are up there too.

Gad to see that someone else has mentioned the humble bicycle!
As a device of transportation it is the simplest most efficient, environmentally friendly, cost effective mode of transport ever invented! And without transport where would we be?

Probably the bicycle because it is the most efficient machine ever invented and uses 100% of the engergy used to keep it in motion

Too many to mention here... It would take all morning just to think about it!...

I wouldn't say it was invented, but discovered: Fire.

I would also say also the plow. as it helped farmers till the land to develop the land to grow food.

Then I would say the screw and nail, as they helped keep things like wood together like in houses.

I would also say that God is the greatest inventer and gave mankind the inventive and discovering mind to help us live here.
