I'd love the answer to this too.

Can anyone answer about fertility after you get off the shot? (Can it make you infertile)

I first took depo provera 24 years ago before the FDA set their rules. Back then it was new to United States but had been tested for 20 years in Switzerland....or so I was told.....I kept getting injections until the period stopped. It was great, it was wonderful and no side effects other than no period. 12 years later I was in menopause and tried the depo provera again and the FDA wouldn't allow giving the booster shots to stop the flow, I didn't feel well and spotting every few days. Some women completely stop the periods while others spot more than normal. Hopefully, you will be one of the lucky ones. Good Luck.

Kitten....I went to the doctor where he induced my period and 2 months later I was pregnant. My son did have arthritis but so did my dad as a young child.

Hi I have 4 kids. After having my first child. I got on the Depo shot. I had a period for awhile very light. After the second shot I didn't have any periods. I loved it. I did not gain any weight. I love being on the Depo shot. I recommend getting it in the thigh verses your arm. Hurts less that way. Right after I got off the Depo shot. I got my period back, and I got pregnant. I have very healthy children. My youngest is 3 years old. I took it for years on and off. For the kids in between those breaks lol. You can get right back on Depo after having a baby. I even breast fed while on the Depo. Just have a good talk with your doctor. It effects everyone differently. Good luck to you.

Main side effect is weight gain...this hormone is used as an appetite stimulant in other circumstances, you need to be quite active to keep the weight off, read some stories from USA where women gained massive amounts on Depo. Can also cause headaches palpitations and loss of libido. I never had any problems.
Main advantage is convenience, only one shot every three months to remember and very reliable, also reduces risk of some cancers.
Periods are usually disrupted and often stop altogether. Mine did, then when I came off they took around a year to return to normal.

hello. i was on it for a year and a half. after a few months, i stopped getting a period completely. unfortunately i gained 40 lbs! but, some people lose weight..and some don't have any change at all. a year or so after i got off the shot, i found out i had severe precancer of my cervix, and had to have surgery to remove it...the doctor thinks it had something to do w/ the depo shot. not sure though...it wasn't proven. don't let that scare you though. as long as you have regular checkups, you'll be fine. good luck :)

I had the depo shot for 12 months. It stopped my periods completely :) And I had no period for 3 months after I came off it.I came off it though because it made me put one weight...I put on a stone in that 12 months despite healthy eating. My fiance and I have been trying for baby number 3 since I came of it,still no joy after 11 months.

If your not planning on having a baby in the very near future then go for it as it can take up to a year for your menstrual cycle to get back to normal.I used to get a 'dead' arm for 2 days after my jab too. Not painful just annoying.

My wife started taking depo shots about 5 years ago, but she's off it now.

I noticed that she would get the chills a good bit. And her menstrual cycles became quite irregular, sometimes going months without a period. But I wouldn't deem any of her side effects to be adverse.

I'm actually thinking about encouraging her to get back on it.

My period stopped, which was great. The problem was it made me gain weight that I couldn't seem to lose until I was off the shot.
