I keep hearing all these reference to it. Im just curious. Is it that you are allowed to be gay as long as you dont tell anyone? Does this apply to females as well or is it only males? Where does this happen? Is it only in america? Do similar rules apply in australia?

The USA military is one of a few militarys in the world with such a strict policy. Australia's military (but not government) is very fair and gives equal, married rights to same-sex defacto couples.
Which is surprising, huh - the military but no-one else! But very good. I am trying to join the Australian military, and at the moment it is the only job that would give me that social recognition and the benefits that should go with it, in Australia.

You're allowed to be gay if you don't tell anyone and no one suspects or finds out.
They don't even treat their own kind right, so I wouldn't advise joining the Navy unless you feel you have no other options to get ahead in life
Some countries military organizations are more liberal. I don't know about Australia's. I'm a U.S.A. citizen

EASY! You Can be gay, but...you can't participate in any GAY Action, or Tell anyone your gay! So...what you do is...anything gay related...you keep Away from the uniform and base/post...sometimes alot of platton leaders and squad leaders dont care...but until someone in ur group reports it.

No one in the military shoud discuss their personal sex life. It is no ones business but the individual.
A person is just as likely to be kicked out of the military for having sex with a prostitute as having gay sex.
