I am from San Francisco and will be going to chicago in December. I will be wearing a knee length wool dress. Do i have to get special boots to wear there ie. boots with a lining or can i just wear extra layers underneath? Any suggestions on what I should do? Thanks1

Make sure your boots & shoes are waterproofed. The snow & ice is tough on leather.
Since you are visiting, you might be able to get away w/ heavy tights, thick knee highs that won't show or wearing jeans over the boots.

i dont think you realize how cold it gets up north of the usa. i would never wear a dress in december, im from north dakota, it gets as low as -40 f.
