No, and I don't think it is a joke.
From what I read,
This sort of disorder is created out of survival, usually out of very abused people.
Sometimes the way a person affected with Disassociation Identity Disorder (or multi-personality disorder) , suicide could be how one identity thinks, feels or believes to get what they want.
For example, most of the identities are cool, but a few think if they destroy the body they are in now, they themselves will able to get bodies of their own.
I could go further into this interesting topic, but I am not really wanting to at this time.
