I wrote a blog in reaction to the myths I have encountered regarding homosexuals. Please add other misconceptions. I want to use them on GSA posters on my college campus. I would also like to include myths about bisexuals and transgendered individuals. Please help, it's for a good cause. Here's what I wrote:

1. Homosexuality is not a choice.
2. It's not a mental illness or a disease.
3. It's not an addiction that can be overcome.
4. No reparative therapy known to man can make me straight.
5. I was not physically, sexually, or emotionally abused as a child. I was not ignored by my mother and seek love in other women to fill the void.
6. I did not have a bad experience with men and turn to women.
7. No, it's not that I haven't found a well enough endowed male.

8. We don't have sex with everything that moves.
9. We do pursue long-term relationships, most times relations for life.
10. Heterosexuals are just as likely to getting STD's as homosexuals, and vice-versa.

Yeah, they pretty much covered everything.

Mr Jello, yes from the info you gave us either...

a. She's still in denial to this day (I can only imagine how much her head is f'ed up because of it.)

b. She was bicurious, or wanted to experiment.

With the response you gave us, we see that you're still ignorant. Those who are truly gay, bi, lesbian, or transgendered will realize it when the time comes, and they will stay that way.

Those who aren't gay or bi or lesbian will find out when they're experimenting, possibly a little later.

No, as how we've told you, conversion/reparative therapy is bs. You can't convert someone gay to straight, like how you can't convert someone sraight to gay. It's not in the cards. Stop being ignorant. And what kind of person are you to call this girl your daughter (I include step-daughter to be the same thing.) if you can't support her in believing in herself!? That's outrageous! A person doesn't have any right to call a kid their child if they can't accept him/her for who they are, even if they came out of your sperm... I'm surprised you don't find shame in that fact. Read, study, then talk.

8. I will not change if you set me up with the opposite sex.
9. Homosexuals are just as likely to get an STD as a heterosexual.
10. Homosexuality is not a punishment for not believing in God.
11. Just because I am gay it doesnt mean I want to sleep with everyone of the same sex.
12. I do not want to be the opposite sex.

Mr. Jello, Have you ever heard of transition homosexuality because that was the type of homosexual your daughter chose to be. There are two types - transition (or chosen) which is done by quite a large number of highschool and college females to attract attention from men and there is non-transitional which is when a person does not choose to be gay but just is. Please do not classify us all as one group - like heterosexuals we are individuals with individual needs and individual reasons for why we are the way we are. I for one would never say that I was born gay nor would I say that I was born straight because I myself believe that we are not born into any sexual orientation and rather we become the orientation through conditions, biological, psychological, and physiological needs - but while I know this applies to me I would never say the same applies to your daughter, Rosie O'Donnell or any other openly gay person on this planet because I have not walked in their shoes.

Dogs can devour uncooked and thrive on it IF the landlord is aware of what they are doing. Good Job :) 1-5 applies to all sexual orientations and gender identities. 6-7 would also apply with different wording.

As for bisexuals, I'd say the biggest myth is that they are all confused horn-dogs and will shag anything that moves.

As for transsexuals it would have to be that they are simply gay.

You can only speak for yourself.

My stepdaughter adopted the lesbian lifestyle while she was in high school. We told her that we loved her, but wouldn't support her choice. After 6 years, she decided to give up that lifestyle and make a different choice for her future. Now she's engaged to a fine young man. And yes, she says that it is a choice.

And yes, people can make different choices with their lives.

I'm sure you will have issues with this and have to justify her actions by using qualifiers like "wasn't sure", "confused", "bi", etc... Maybe you could be right. Then we should work to see if all gays can be converted because they too might "wasn't sure", "confused", "bi", etc... as well.
