Renaissance faire or a reenactment event (pre-Civil War)

I have never seen an unhappy child at one of these events! The costumes, horses and natural surroundings seem to be endlessly fascinating. I've watched children enjoy dipping candles, twisting their own jumprope and doing other activities, most of which cost very little. In our region at least~Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin~there are numerous events. Entry fees and food and drink prices generally are much more reasonable than at amusement parks and other such sites.

Generally, you won't encounter concrete and gravel, long lines, pushing and shoving, and other irritating things. If there are rides at a faire (the proper spelling for such events), they generally are people-powered and far safer than at carnivals and parks. If you get to a faire where there are knights on horseback... I don't think kids' eyes can get any bigger with amazement.

The great thing about kids is they have fun anywhere! (except maybe a funeral) It's all about what they make it. I take my son to to festivals, chucky cheeses and children's museums when we do something special. On ordinary days, we go to the park, to visit grandma, or just play in the backyard. On rainy or cold days, we do crazy projects. Like today for example, we were bored so I grabbed a cardboard box, tape and some paint. We made a house. He loves it, and loved doing it!

Depends on where you are and what the weather is like and how old the kids are, little a park is free and they can play forever and wear them selves out to take a nice long nap or go to bed early. teenage movies, mall if it's is girls, boys some kind of indoor/outdoor tag shooting place.

Since it's no longer summer, if you are anywhere in Western PA, Eastern OH, or the western part of Upstate NY, may I suggest Splash Lagoon, the indoor water park just outside of Erie, PA....it's a blast. (And yinz thought I was going to say "Disney World," right?)

To the pet store to show them the animals that they could have but won't because you want to do chores and clean their rooms for 6 months without telling them to more than once, before they can go to the local animal shelter to get a pet. You didn't say it was fun for them.
