Let's start with a simpler one:

x/y + h/k = ((x * k) + (h * y)) / (y*k)

So we have to try to find one Common Denominator which is also called the Least Common Denominator (LCD). So for x and x^2 that are below the fraction line, the LCD is of course x^2:


1 / x + 1/x^2 = x + 1 / (x^2)

(x + 1) over x^2, for all x not equal to 0

Multiply 1/x by x/x to get a common denominator. Then add (x/x^2) + (1/x^2) to get (x+1)/x^2

your function is defined for all x except x=0 hence its domain is D=R-{0} R=set of all real nos.
1/x+1/x^2=[1/x](1+1/x) taking 1/x common from both terms
=1/x [(1+x)/x]
=(1+x )/x^2

x(x+1)/x^3

(x+1)/x^2
