Basic do's and don't's when you're at a hard rock concert.
Just throw out the most important things you think people should know before they go for a better experience.

I'll assume for this that you're young and that you mean some variation of hardcore/punk/emo types of music. Though, I'll try to include most of the general rules as well. These are not in any order of importance.

1. "that guy (or girl) rule" Do not wear a tshirt of the band you are going to see. Also, do not put on the t-shirt that you buy there. DON'T BE THAT GUY (or girl of course, that's just the name of the rule).
2. Regarding the above posts....joints are normally passed to the left hand side. For reference, see the song "pass the dutchie to the left hand side" or the phrase "left handed cigarette(which may not historically mean that, but seriously left hand side......or what I do sometimes is just hold it straight out in front and whichever side grabs it first wins." Also regarding the above posts, people that go to hardcore shows to hit people are retarded. Don't be one of the those people. If you're feeling the music get the **** down even if you're getting violent, but don't get violent because its the thing to do. Those people are posers. Actually, sorry to say it, but most of the people are posers anyway (which is ok unless music is specifically your thing...in which case people will make fun of you for being a poser even though they probably are themselves). There's a reason why for at least 20 years that young, impressionable people have flocked to shows such as this (and before that I'm sure it was the same with what we now call classic rock). The reason is called FUN, and that's what its about (as well as life in general) so feel free to throw out any rule.
3. If you're planning on getting active (and possibly violent) come well hydrated , and be well hydrated throughout. It might seem dumb but, if you're packed into a club or small space with a bunch of people it's going to be hot. If you add the variables of being active and possibly drunk (not condoning necessarily) your going to get dehydrated.
4. If you're concerned about your hearing bring earplugs. If you're going to do this get some decent plugs that attenuate frequencies the same, not the really cheap foam ones. I used to never wear earplugs, but I do now. I'm a musician and an audio engineer so it matters to me a lot, but I'd hate to see a show with some bullshit earplugs that obstructing the music (you want ones that attenuate or make quieter) all the frequencies the same) . If you see a show here and there, it might not matter, but for people that go to a lot of shows, you're a dumbass for not using them. I know it seems uncool for younger people, but seriously, if you see a lot of live shows your hearing is going to degrade quickly.
5. If you are the type that drinks or does drugs, don't do so much that you don't remember the show. What is the point of going if you don't remember it.
6. If this IS a show that is in the hardcore/punk/emo scene, keep your drugs and alcohol on the down-low. There very well might be (a few) people there that will look down on you because they are straight edge and don't think you should be doing that (which is fine....and dare I say as somewhat of an old head even smart) . So if you're concerned about social status (which personally I think is retarded, be yourself, but be self aware) don't be that wasted or allude that you are. You might make some friends that you wouldn't otherwise. If by chance you're older and just going to some stadium rock show, do as you please, get wasted, whatever, just do what you do to have a good time. But, again, if you don't remember the show, what is the point in going if you don't remember it? (Disclaimer: I'm not encouraging kids to get wasted before shows, i just know some of them will anyway. Seriously though, don't have too much of whatever because it will take away from the show in the long run. It sucks when you can say I went to "this show" but you don't remember how they played your favorite song.)
7. If you like the band, buy merchandise. If it's a major band then they are likely bound to their contract. In most cases of bands on labels this means that they will not actually make money until the costs of their recording and promotion is recouped by the record company. Buying a t-shirt helps them. If it's a local or unsigned band and you like them, buy a t-shirt and a cd and stickers. Buy whatever they have if you like them. It encourages good, local, indy music. Which is good.
8. Don't tell people about how well you know the band, or how you saw them so many times before.... just enjoy it and don't be cheesy.

I think that is it, or at least that's the most I can think of at close to 5 in the morning. If the original poster is somebody that is older and they meant a stadium or arena type show I'm sorry I figured the poster was young. If you are a little older, tailgate (with a DD) and rock your old(er) *** off like i would. I'm not that old though......yet.

Hardcore and heavy steel could be identical; they are each loud, as a rule abrasive and a laugh! Depends what type of heavy steel...moshing does not arise in punk and plenty of steel gigs...it is typically pits, simply play combating however way more exaggerated! You'd count on to get a minimum of a couple of bruises, and within the pit, such a lot persons get bloody noses/lips and so on. Crowd browsing most of the time happens in all the concert events, aside from goth rock, as that is extra low key, and you would not get a pit at an indie or goth rock live performance. Mostly leaping up and down at those. There is commonly a ordinary false impression that at hardcore and steel gigs persons simply wish to harm others, however all people is going there figuring out what to count on, and most of the time persons have appreciate for each and every different. Sometimes persons take getting hit/knocked individually, which is not what it is approximately. Hope that is what you are after :D
