Russia is a country of Europe, not Asia...You should ask why Australia can play in Asia Cup since it from Ocenia...This all related to the power of a country....

that is a good point.

Several national football associations which are geographically in Asia or mostly in Asia belong to UEFA rather than the Asian Football Confederation. These nations are Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Israel, Cyprus, Russia and Azerbaijan (Israel and Kazakhstan are former AFC members). Cyprus chose to be classed as a European football nation — it had the choice of Europe, Asia and Africa.

Two reasons. First, part of Russia is in Europe. Second, FIFA confederations are not strictly governed by continent. My memory is that there is one South American country in CONCACAF (the rest of South America is in CONMEBOL). In addition to Russia and Turkey (which are part in Europe and part in Asia), you have Israel and Kazakhstan in UEFA. Finally, Australia is in the AFC (Asian Football Confederation).

Ignorance is bliss!

Russia, up to the Urals (that's a mountain range, for your enlightenment - mountains are big hills, for your further enlightenment), is in Europe.

Repeat after me: "I must look at an atlas before I post and make myself look ignorant"
