because men already wrote women out of the history books, so we decided to take over science....they even got "men-struation" and that obviously has nothing to do with them.

I don't recall that from science class but my best guess is because we humans all begin life as females.

Whoever named them got to choose. It doesn't mean any more than calling ships "she" or by girls' names.
