Every woman is different. The average is about 6 weeks and that's what most doctors and literature would say. However, I have three kids and with each one I bled for 4 weeks. As you can see, another woman who answered your question said she bled for 8. I believe the time is shorter than the average by maybe a week for women who breastfeed, but I'm not sure. I didn't breast feed any of my kids, so the length of time just basically depends on your body.

I had a c-section. It seems like a bled a good amount (like a period) for about a week or two after the baby was born. But there was constant spotting well beyond that.

Oh and just so you are prepared... when I finally did start having a period again after I stopped breastfeeding...HOLY SMOKES!!! Let's just say I was seriously under prepared for the massive flow! And from what other ladies I talked to said, that's fairly normal. Stock up on Supers! It only happened that first period, then things calmed down.

After my first child it was about 1 week heavy then light for another 1-2 weeks.
I know this may sound different but get some depends underwear disposable kind for the first couple of days, it was a help to me cause when I used the pads they gave me in the hospital, I leaked out bad and had to change often and when you hurt down there the easier the better at changing yourself.

LOL..it cracks me up that some men try to answer these questions without really knowing... I have had two kids and you will bleed for about 6 weeks but usually after the first week it really lightens up...Then if you are not breastfeeding sometimes your period will start...Stock up now.....:) Oh and just in case you didn't know you are not supposed to use Tampons.

Since I have had three children I can say it all depends, sometimes for two weeks, other times from five to 10 days, it all depends on your body, but if you have a c-section, which I did for my last one I only bled for I think a couple of days. Is this your first baby? How exciting if it is!!!!!!!!!!!

I say it's about 6 weeks. That's how long it took me and some of my friends were around there too.
