Immigrants are wonderful (aren't most of us here because our grandparents settled here). But illegal immigrants are terrible for the economy, even though supposedly do jobs no one else wants. this is hard to believe, because they charge over $10 for landscaping, and as home cleaners, etc. The money will be sent into Mexico for relatives. But the biggest risk to our economy is the medical and other coverages we pay for them. I work as a volunteer in a hospital that serves the illegal immigrants. They pay nothing for having babies, being treated in our emergency room, or for anything else medically. I also go to the same clinic as some of them. I recently had to pay over $100 for a prescription. The lady in front of me paid $5.00, on what is share cost...we the taxpayer sharing the cost. My husband is a legal immigrant from Holland, and cannot get free medical or anything else. He is unable to get insurance so has none, free or not. And yet the illegal immigrants go to the clinic and get it all for free. This isn't media talk; I live with it all around me. They are bad for the economy, but nothing will change because big farms want and use them (in California) to cut overhead costs.

I would say BAD!!! I'm certainly not prejudice, but my thinking is our Social Security is running out. The first Baby boomer signed up yesterday it was on the news. So if anyone is working immigrant, illegal or not, they should have Social Security held out. I'm 46 and am forced to pay the tax but most likely there won't be any money left when I'm ready to retire. What in the world will happen to us when we reach that age? I am worried......Also they are hired for much much less than minimum wage and they do it happily just to provide for there family's, I understand I probably would try it o, but the citizens who works there tails off need cost of living raises and probably won't get it because of no taxes being held out to sustain our economy as it is. It is going to be like a domino effect when it all comes to a head! I am so so so worried!

first off, I would like to say that they are good for the economy. Secondly, I would like to see you people who said it is bad for the economy to go off to a field and pick strawberries and other fruits for much less than minimum wage for a period of 12 hours a day. You people won't last more than a day.

The US would have done away with the illegal immigrants long ago if they did not greatly benefit from them. So whether people like to admit it or not: good.
