It depends on the school district. In the US, elementary school is usually kindergarten and grades 1-5, and then middle school is 6-8 (while high school is 9-12). But it's not uncommon for a district to keep 6th grade in elementary school and have only grades 7 and 8 in middle school. Or sometimes they could even have "junior high school" for grades 7-9, although that is rare nowadays (that was how we did it traditionally; my parents went to a 7-9 junior high back in the 1970s. But from my understanding, most places starting changing junior high to middle school just a little after that).

1-4 is elementary.
