When Coca-Cola was made, it was intended to be a headache medicine. It had a little bit of cocaine in it, but that was on the 1800 century. When it became a soft drink, the cocaine was taken out.

Coke came out in the late 1800's. Most drugs were legal until the 1930's. They added caffeine after that for the buzz.

Of course. They used coca leaves.
They also used cocaine as aspirin, to give people energy, and to lose weight. It was a miracle drug when it was first discovered.
When it was made illegal, it actually made a lot of middle class white women drug offenders because they were addicted to it.

Extract of the Coca leaves. Those where the days. I think you could buy it of the apothecary, no age limit or questions asked. But then again in those days they used radioactive paints and asbestos at home.
The caffeine is now the main addictive ingredient in coca-cola.

Yes, but when people talk about that, they really exaggerate it. It's not like drinking early Coca-cola would be the same as doing a line or something. It was just trace amounts.

Yes, but that was when they didn't know how dangerous cocaine actually was. When they realized it, they removed it and replaced it with caffiene.

It was completely legal then and it was sold as sort of a healthful boost. They had no idea it could cause harm back them
They thought of it as medicinal
