Of course, the whole point is to try to help.

Just because you know some askers ignore the informative answers, and give BA to some joker who doesn't even answer the question, is no reason to change that.

Yes, I am. It gives me that sense of satisfaction, that inner good feeling. ("I know I'm not the best, but I've done my best"). I like giving the required information for any question, whether I am selected best or not. It is millions of people having the same habit that made Yahoo! Answers such a success.

I still give the same good information, whether I'm selected or not, because I enjoy doing it. Of course, I feel bad if some idiotic answer is selected and not my informative answer. But that sometimes happens, and I just move on. I'm not here to earn points and show off to people that I have this much. I am here to help people who need it. And that's what I do.

Yes, at least I don't regret because I didn't try my best...
There are times when I thought I won't get the Best Answer but suddenly the asker give me the Best Answer... ^_^

It is unfair sometimes when I really answer as detailed as possible and the Best Answer goes to a short and funny answer, but nevermind...

I never know for a fact that I will get Best Answer and to b honest whether I do or don't doesn't bother me. I answer the question to the best of my ability or to question what is being asked. Getting Best Answer is a bonus if I get it.

If i know there is no hope, i will not, I do not bother, unless it is one of my contacts and I like to give them my best answer possible.
On the other hand, there are times when I did not expect I will get a best answer and I was pleasantly surprised, and others when I had anticipated a best answer and I did not.

Yes, even when I know the questioner, has already said in their question what their favorite answer will be, I still answer the way my truthful answer is. I sometimes will say in my answer that I already know they won't award me any points but that I don't care as I am going to go ahead and answer what I believe, anyway.

Yes, I almost feel guilty not doing so. Without going into a long story my job requires being informative.

No one knows if they are going picked as Best Answer. Best Answers are picked for all sorts of reason.

I will still answer any question to the best of my ability.

Cheers
