Well, that's not really the point of helping others is it?
And if you're only helping others for rewards and recognition, then you're not really in it to actually be helping others are you?

It's awesome that you choose to help other people but you need to do it for the right reasons. It should be something you do just because you want to not because you have a personal goal in mind. Take joy in that moment when you see someone happy for the help you've offered them. It's amazing sometimes how even the smallest things can have such profound results even years after the fact either for you or that other person. Only good things come from good things ... that's the reward !! : )

Your talking about the Anti civilization effect. I can get you out of that. and into that feeling your looking for. Be part of making history at the same time helping the whole world change not just well metaphorically speaking putting a band aid on a gun shot wound.

Yes, I felt under-appreciated all the time, but I try to always remember that I help others out of goodness, not a favor, so I can't expect any good returns all the time... ^_^
The good part is, knowing that you really mean it when you helped someone made you felt happy with yourself...

No I have tutored children and watched them catch on to things that they didn't think that they could learn. A lot of them still remember me and they are in their 30's now. I also have girls who remember me being their girl scout leader years ago. I have made a point of making sure that I've made a difference in these children's life's so that when they get older they have options they might not have before they met me.

No actually I don't. I am a hospice nurse and I help people every day, whether it be a patient or their family members. I am very fulfilled in knowing that I have made a difference every day, to the people I take care of and will be remembered by their families for years to come. Great question,
Thanks, Loreen

No, I'm a mom My children ask for my advise. They'll remember me. It counts in my heart and theirs. Others do remember and it'll count in their hearts if the help was given without strings attached.

Yes, I do feel that way occasionally.
But, I do think that perhaps half the time, it could just be the people and how they may precieve me.
Being misunderstood and not respected for who you really are or what you have to offer can be a hard pill to swallow indeed.

A couple of months ago on some forum thread on some site I left, I defended a gay/lesbian/bi-sexual from some homophobics.
And did I get thanks for standing up for them?
No is the answer.
That doesn't mean I'm giving up on helping the deserving of course, but I'm still most put out by those ignoramus'.

You don't have to be remembered. You helped that person out in their time of need. At that moment, you were someone's savior. In my opinion, that makes it worth my while. If I can make someone else's life a little less stressful, a little less hectic, someone else's day a little bit better...I am happy. If I can make the person smile at me, my day just gets so much better.
