Not quite true that no one sees them. My sweetie always sees them when I am undressing!
But I get what you mean. We wear them because they are fashionable for many people in most modern cultures. Otherwise, there are some communities in far-flung reaches of this globe, who do not wear panties/under-wears. Visit the Amerindian communities of the Amazon basin, the pygmies of the Congo, the Masai of the East African Savannah etc. Most do wear wrappers/clothing to keep warm, conceal their privacy and yet they also pay attention to hygiene. The women there do have monthly visitors too. Ask them how they address that issue and I am certain that they'll tell you.
good luck

Depends on what I'm wearing. I don't like panty lines. But I enjoy wearing them around the house by myself. Comfort is everything!

1. cotton panties absorbs sweat to protect from yeast infections.
2. they fit onto your skin and doesn't let your clothes run against ur skin causing irritation.
3. It cover certain parts of you that you may not be comfortable showing everyone... if you think no one's watching ur naive... guys have told me that evry time a girl wears a short skirt (if they don't wear panties "it" would should) cause they all see your underwear.

Besides keeping the fluids off your pants (I know some undies that don't do a real good job at even that)...I know some women who wear particularly nice ones just because they can. You can spent a lot of money on underwear and sometimes it makes YOU feel good to know that you are wearing something nice that no one knows about...unless you choose to let them know!

It's become a socially required task. You're rather frowned upon if someone knows that you don't wear it. Also, there is the warmth issue, and the fact that if something happens to your pants...you have a tiny shred of dignity left (assuming you don't have power ranger underwear on of course)

I'm with Julian. In fact no panties are required to be worn. I think she has replied sincerely. She deserve full marks.

I think you would probably feel uncomfortable wearing pants without them. And if you're wearing a skirt you would feel a draft.
