i don't get it... do people actually truly come here for advice on baby names? as in their own children? their flesh and blood? what'r you gonna do when your kids asks about it: say "oh, well i was inspired by some guy on the internet..."?

Hey f0876and...

Just because your parents gave you random letters and numbers for a name, doesn't mean you need to be bitter to others.

No it's not a joke, some people just want advice on what sounds good or if anyone has anything interesting to add. Some people are just looking for suggestions on what sounds good as a middle name. Nothing wrong in getting feedback on your ideas, what does it matter where it cames from?
And FYI, I got the idea of my daughters name while watching a talk show and a little girl on there was named Morgan and I really liked it (this was 13 years ago so that name was not that popular then). The inspiration for the name matters not.

I have raised the same issue twice before. First time I received a violation notice for calling the parents morons.
Second time I had some abusive replies, far more abusive than anything I'd said. From memory it was about not underestimating the proliferation of idiots in this world.
I hope you fair better than I.
Truly anyone naming their child from advice from a complete stranger is a nob.
You can quote me on that.

I don't think it's stupid for people to seek advice about a name. After all while parents are ultimately the ones that name their children, sometimes it's nice to see what popular opinion is, after all this is a name the world is going to be using. Some people just come and want someone to agree with what they like, others are just throwing around names for ideas. I don't see anything wrong with it.

well the visual media that many people rely on these says seems to have mushed their brains to the point that people are incapable of thinking for theirselves and when they get the answers to lifes deepest questions from the hippest sitcom out at the time it only seems lgical that the inspiration for their babys name would come from some guy eating chips just sitting around answering questions

i see where you're coming from if people are completely clueless about what to name their child, but a lot of people just need help deciding between 2 or more names they like and just want to know which one people like best or what people think of the name they already chose. It's still up to them to decide what to name their child, though. They're not asking someone to name their baby, they just want opinions

They ask for opinions. It does not matter if they ask on here or gets a name off of a show or in a book, who really cares what you think. Everyone is entitled to name their kids what they want.

I'm actually glad this category is here...if it wasn't there would be a lot more kids running around named "Morning Glory Grace" or "Trachea Maroon" or whatever.

If we have saved one child from lifelong disgrace...we have accomplished something.

Peace.

Well having not such a good sounding name, I kinda wish that my parents had YAP to get advice on my name.

Anyways they can always lie to their child about where they got the name from.
