I usually respond with "I'm doing okay" or "fine", when I am not feeling totally up-to-par, instead of responding with "good".

I dont lie in most cases, if things are going poorly, i response with ' not so good' or' just all right', but when i am in a really bad situation, i tell the truth

I always respond with Better and Better. take it to mean whatever you want it to I'm not lieing. just might not mean the same thing to me as you.
