why do certain jobs get paid less than other jobs? i don't think our government is practicing equality. why should i get paid $8/hour when, say, my neighbour gets paid $30/h. do they hate me or something????

Is it "fair" that some people get paid the same for doing less????

If I spend a day mowing half your lawn,
why shouldn't I get paid as much as the kid
who spent half a day mowing all of it?

WHO decides, anyhow.
If you want to pay somebody more for a tasty hamburger,
is it the government's job to arrest you and make you pay
the same price for a lousy one?

Oh, by the way, can you define a word you used?
The word is "fair".
Exactly WHAT does that word mean?
Can you define it?
(And would YOU want to be held to your definition,
in ALL of your future activities?!)

This would be called Command economy, or Communism. Communism believes that all men are equal and none should have more or less than another. It all comes back to the 3 economic questions:
1) Who decides what goods will be produced? Government
2) Where goods will be produced? Government
3) How goods will be made? Government

Since we live in a Capitalist, or free market economy, we are not completely equal. So therefore, some people get paid less then others because we are not communist. The answers to the economic questions in our society are:
1) The people
2) the people
3) the people

Hope this helps :)

You get paid in direct proportion to the usefulness or desirability of your skills. Its a lot easier to become a ditch digger than it is to get an MD or PhD (and a whole lot cheaper and quicker). Why should a person with negligable skills be paid the same as a person with more training and a less common skill? The only way that you can justify paying them the same is if you are on the low end of the scale and feel entitled to something for nothing. You dont like what you are being paid, then go and get some training and develop a skill set that is in greater demand. God created all men equal, after that, its up to you to make your own way in the world.

No. Of course not! The doctor who does fixes your failing heart valves should get the same pay (or maybe six or ten times as much) as the guy who cooks fries for your Big Mac.
Maybe they should change jobs once in a while, when one of them wants to take a vacation -- like when YOU need surgery.

GET REAL!!!!

In a free market, people get paid only when someone else thinks that what they produce is of value -- that's the only "fair" way to get paid. Fair is fair -- you get paid an amount determined freely by other people.

They pay you what they think your products or services are worth. Forcing them to pay MORE is tyranny.

Giving you more than your work is worth (to consumers) is Socialism. Forcing you to work for what the government decides is slavery. (Usually, the second thing follows soon after the first one is imposed.)

Yes. Some jobs are worth more in the marketplace for on thing. two people doing the same job equally well, same experience and in the same company should get paid about the same although the person with the most time at the company will probably ( and probably should ) get paid more.
But if two people are doing the same job and one does it better they should be paid more.

Do you know how to do what your neighbor does for $30/hr? You get paid based on your skill set and knowledge. Want the big bucks, go to school and learn the proper skill set.

Businesses are forced by govt. to pay you minimum wage. If you are making $8/hr then you are making better than that. You really do not want govt. interfering any more than they do now.

In a perfect world this would be nice but practically thinking who would work the difficult jobs for no difference . maybe we could all just at least recieve a fair wage instead . I've not seen this done as of yet .

Yes. For instance, A doctor deserves to be paid more than a Janitor.

Unless you're a supporter of socialism/communism!

Yes, I do. Some people have a lot more education and experience than say a new "kid on the block". Therefore, the people who know more and specialize in certain fields of expertise should certainly be paid more than those who do not.

If some one has gone to school for a job they should make more than a person with no education. If you want to get ahead in this world then education is key. Otherwise you can flip burgers all your life. You weren't born with a wallet full of money. It is up to you to make something of yourself. We the taxpayers owe you nothing.
