Where can I find information about the dis-qualifications of alimony?

Apparently I need to clarify that I am not the person seeking alimony. My friend is going through divorce and his wife cheated and now is threatening to sue for Alimony. I am trying to find out as much as I can about it so I can help him out because he doesn't have any money to give.

I highly doubt the courts will grant her any alimony, especially if the basis of the divorce was her cheating.

You can still request it if you've been a stay at home wife or mother and the two of you established that lifestyle. The idea being that you gave up a career because he wanted you to stay at home and now it would be more difficult for you to get back into the workforce. This is the idea behind alimony. However they will take your infidelity into account. It depends on the state but I doubt you would get anything.
Do keep in mind he would have to prove your infidelity, and this is very difficult. Also don't confuse alimony with child support if you have children.

Your friend's ex wife is a loser. Laws vary by state as far as alimony goes, but it can be fought even in no-fault states which would mean her cheating is neither here nor there. It is still a mitigating factor in determining alimony or not, unless there was a pre-nup. Cheaters suck.

I hope not, lol! I wish there were tougher laws on this. Noone should get alimony if they cheated! Noone should get custody of the kids if they cheated! sigh =(...
