I believe that you need to aspire to something higher than what you see on the Disney channel. Some of that programming is barely more artistic than an average high school talent competition.
Still if the Disney channel is how you dream of starting, it’s going to be essential for you to base yourself either in Los Angeles, CA or in Miami, FL, because these are the 2 places where the overwhelming majority of Disney television programming is produced. If you don’t live where it’s being made, how are you going to:
1. Seek representation – get representation through a reputable talent agency
2. Attend auditions – as your agent submits you for productions being cast
3. Work – presuming you are among the slim margin of actors who manage to land roles on either coast. (Rule of thumb in the film industry – 1 paid, working role for every 100 auditions you go to. No lie.)
But let’s say you’re there in CA or FL. Let the drama program (or the speech team) at your school be your initial training ground. Audition for plays at your school. If you audition, but don’t get a part, offer to be part of the stage crew, learn about stagecraft, lighting, sound, costuming, hair and makeup. All of this will help prepare your overall appreciation for the all of the various skills required to produce ensemble theatre, whether it be dramatic, comedic or musical.
If this suits you, take it further and seek an agency. I could write you 50 paragraphs about how to go about doing this, but suffice it to say that persistence and perseverance are required. It is unquestionably essential. Trying to go about building an acting profession without adequate representation is ridiculous.
Let’s say you’re on fire and you sign with a great talent agency. They start submitting you for roles that are suitable for your age, looks, physical attributes, skills, experience and personality.
Let’s say you’re really on fire and you’re called into a dozen auditions/wk for anything from TV commercials, to movies of the week, to 5-and-under roles on soap operas, to film projects, to Disney channel episodes, to stage plays and student films. You’re going to spend more time doing one thing than everything else that you do – driving! Working actors in L.A. drive themselves practically into oblivion getting to auditions in different parts of the city at different times of the day.
Let’s say you’re volcanically on fire and you book a few jobs in your first month of auditioning. Learning how to show up and get to work on the set of the film or television episode is something you can only gain by trial and error of experience. The conditions on sets can be pressure-packed & hyperventilating. They can also be cool and relaxed; depending on how the producers and director like to work, and on how tight the crew is, etc.
Let’s say you generate a lot of interest and your agent’s phone is ringing of the hook (guy can dream, can’t he?). You can get on a wave of projects that turns into one giant sequence of connecting the dots in a way that can ambush your life.
Qualified training really helps keep you on an even keel. If you go to college and study, if you get a theatre degree, you’re going to learn how to conduct yourself as an artist who has the ability to wisely interpret any script you read, any role put before you, any performance challenge. Such skills come in handy when you’re trying to step into an acting career.
There are thousands of actors in Los Angeles alone, all hoping to crack the nut. Only a small percentage of them treat the audition process in a consistently professional manner in such a way as to get cast regularly enough to be called a working actor – an artist whose primary livelihood comes from their work as an actor/singer/dancer/musician/performer.
Developing a thick skin is an absolute necessity, but so is the skill of being emotionally available enough to get into the heart and mind of the characters you hope to portray.
But on top of that, you've got to really want to do this. The competition is ridiculously severe, especially in Los Angeles and New York. If you don't have the heart to face unparalleled rejection, you need to choose something different to do. You could have killer looks, and still generate minimal interest in the beginning stages. This is not for the weak of heart. If you are not determined to do it for your own personal goals, it is almost impossible to sustain enough hope to ‘permeate’ the bubble and get yourself inside the realm of the working actor's world.

you cannot get an audition without an agent and you cannot get an agent without your parents' doing it for you, and you cannot get an agent without training and experience, lots of it that takes years, so you probably won't be ready before all the disney programs have changed and you won't want to do them at that time anyway. And what is your sister? Oh you say she is your agent. sorry doesn't work that way. Have to have a real one.
