IWHBYD Skull in Halo 3?

do you actually have to complete the level to get the unlock with the IWHBYD skull? on the other levels you don't have to, but i just got the IWHBYD skull but nothing happened. :-( would like to make sure i know what to do before i do it allllllllll again. thanks.

you don't get an achivement to confirm you get it, you just need to pick it up
