no.. you should leave the window cracked for him for some air.. but when it is blazing hot outside and you don't want the windows down.. I think that is too hot for a dog to be in a car.. I see people do that all the time.. and it hurts my feelings.. (when it is hot)

because the weather is cooler 2 or 4 windows should be left open for the proper air flow so that your dog may breath.legally if all your windows are up and it's 56 degrees outside then it will be alot hotter inside the car which in most states would be consindered cruelty to animals

In Oklahoma the animal cruelty statute talks about beating, maiming, torturing and so on....what you might expect. The statute goes on to say "deprive any such animal of necessary food, drink, shelter, or veterinary care to prevent suffering." I do not believe a dog is going to suffer if left in a car when the temperature is 56 even for several hours. I see dogs in cars in parking lots all of the time and it never looks like the are suffering to me.

In many states, yes it is illegal. Dogs don't deal with heat the way humans do for one thing. Secondly, even on a cool day, a closed car can become deadly hot. It's like a greenhouse effect.
Many people are ignorant in the care of their animals and worse in the care of their kids. I've seen kids left in cars on days like that sweating like they'd just run a marathon because Mom was stupid enough to leave them alone in a parked car. I've called the police many times on people that have left animals and kids in cars and don't feel bad about it.

Depends! 56 outside is not 56 inside! In some circumstances it would be illegal!

You should ALWAYS leave the windows of your car cracked enough for air flow. Otherwise it's really not fair to the dog.

It is their animal and they can do as they please. If they are foolish enough to cook their pet in a car, they should have to live with the stupidity of their mistake-namely a ruined car and loads of regrets.
