what can I put with a clownfish in a 40 gallon salt water tank?

Some fish that I've always liked (smaller and relatively peaceful) are cardinalfish, chromis, longnose hawkfish, canary blenny, clown and scissortail gobies, and jawfish. You could also get a dwarf angel, although these are more aggressive. That's too many altogether for a 40 gallon, but you can research these and find ones you like best.

get another clown of the same speicies. they do sometimes become territorial to one another when not introduced to an aquarium at the same time. ask your local fish store (not a chain store) what saltwater fish do well with each other.
and no not nearly all saltwater fish do get along.
you also will not be able to stock as many fish in a saltwater tank.

what kind of clownfish do you have? some grow big, some stay small. like mine. they are ossellris or however you spell it and only get 2.5 inches.

no on the dori fish.
Dori is a tang. they need at least a 55 gallon tank to have swimming room and they grow to about a foot long.
a good saltwater fish store not like walmart or petsmart will help you.

An anemone would be really cool as the clownfish will hang out in the anemone. Carpet anemones look really cool and the clownfish will roll around inside and on the anemone.

Most salt water fish will be compatible.. Just go ask your local pet store.. You can add plants, etc. as well... Keep in mind that fish require a certain amount of space for their size, I think it is a gallon an inch or something like that... So don't overfill your tank with fish
