No. We did that before, to keep black people from voting; BAD idea. Voting is a RIGHT of citizens, not a privilege!

Yeah, why do you ask? Where are you from and where do think anyone should need this prerequisite of education? In my home country, the great United States of America, we are all created equal and all have a right to vote. People should educate themselves on who or what is to be voted on, and VOTE! Way too many people don't vote, and if you ask me, that's dumb. If we started testing peoples intelligence in order to weed out the idiots then maybe there would be less Democrats in the House. lol

Voting is the right of a citizen in our current system The question is what constitutes a "citizen." Originally, citizenship was reserved for propertied white men. These were probably the people most knowledgeable about the duties and responsibilities of the federal government at the beginning. Remember, the federal government's job did not include welfare services or practically any domestic relations. Therefore, it was not as necessary for absolutely everybody to be represented at the national level. Restricting somebody's ability to choose representation would be directly restricting freedom on unavoidably arbitrary terms. Testing our representatives on their knowledge of the issues before votes in Congress would perhaps be very useful.

I wouldn't think an educational test would be a prerequisite, as much as knowing the qualifications of the candidate. In other words, knowing whom you're voting for as opposed to marking a ballot of an unknown because you're familiar with the name, or you like the sound of it. It's amazing how many people will cast a vote randomly, even if they know nothing about the candidate. That's worse than not voting at all.

Well...it would be nice if people could read who and what they're voting for. I believe that there are special ways for the vision impaired to vote. They do send out brochures that can be read at home prior to the elections...so that hopefully everyone will read, and understand, what's going on.
As far as an educational test per se, no...you don't need to have a certain degree of intelligence to vote...just a knowledge of what each bill, and each candidate stands for.

Many years ago, they did give people tests to keep them from voting. That was for the most part to keep blacks or other races from voting. However, that practice was outlawed. To register to vote, you need ID and an address. Good luck.

Absolutely.
We have a populace that is completely ignorant of our Constitution, our nation's history, and our basic voting process.
The ignorant should never have more power than those who educate themselves just because there are more of them.

No its not a requirement but it may not be a bad idea. Something simple like "can you name the candidates running?" I think so many of those voting have no idea what their candidate stands for much less who the are running against.

while it seems like a smart idea theres no way to make a test unbiased enough for the public to support
i mean who's to say what level of content would have to be required for us to maintain our right as citizens in a democratic society

no because if you separated the population into two groups, and only allowed one group the power to vote, you would end up with that group controlling things to their benefit and to the harm of the other group..... because humans are inheriently selfish.
