Some are the idiots who want to say they just think they saw a good movie and want to say so. But I have never applauded any movie and will not. The only movie I like to go to I will go and never applaud even if I loved the movie. Some idiots do so let them. This one will not and never has.

Only if they do it at home.
In movie theaters people talk, take cell phone calls, shout at each other across aisles, bring crying babies, and find OTHER ways to distract one from the dialogue, so what matter the occasional applause.
There's not been a movie out that I couldn't WAIT until it was released for HOME viewing that I'd PAY to sit through such distractions since "Dances With Wolves." I missed a fair portion of THAT at the packed theater to 3 teens who talked and giggled through the whole thing.

I don't think it's funny to applaud or not applaud. Either one is fine with me. I mean, it's not like a crying baby, ringing cell phone, full makeout couple, or annoying laughing/chatting.

I don't think it's funny, in fact, I don't think about it at all. I don't care. If they want to applaud let them applaud.
What, are you suggesting we have an anti-applaud law now?
I think in a free country people should be able to applaud wherever and whenever they feel the urge.

It is a community experience. It's okay to applaud a movie if
a) it's good
b) it's in the first three days of release

I would laugh as I think it would be funny. Something like that never happened when I was at a cinema, luckily for me.
Things like that are funny to me because someone starts something ridiculous and then a few others just have to join in, monkey see and monkey do... mob mentality, I guess.

I think it is pretty cool actually! I have only experienced it one time after passion of the christ but it was an emotional experience. We have become so independant from our community that when all people express their appreation in this way it shows we still have alittle of the spirit in us

It is kind of dumb, but it is a coming together of the minds and I like that, when a whole bunch of strangers do one thing as a gruop and you are a part of it. Like the baseball wave, how cool is that?

Of course it's a community experience! If other people laugh, you're more likely to laugh; if other people are scared and making sounds to indicate it, you're more likely to feel a tingle yourself. ANY time that you are with other people, it's a community experience, by definition; it's just the nature of human beings.
