Technically, we are no longer at war in Iraq. We are currently in a 'rebuilding' stage. We are helping the Iraqi government develop a government system that is a little more like ours. We are also helping to rebuild the roads, bridges, water delivery systems, schools, cities, and electrical supply that were destroyed over the last several decades in Iraq. Yes, I said several decades.
Iraq is a country that has been at war with somebody or other for a very long time. Because of this, the country has never really developed the things you and I are used to. And when they did develop something, it got destroyed.
Lately, Saddam Hussein was the leader of Iraq. He was a terrible leader who murdered his own people. Sometimes hundreds at a time. He was like Hitler in some ways.
When we were attacked on our own soil by a group of Muslims called Al Qaida, we found out that Saddam Hussein was using his country's money to fund this group. They shared the same religion and wanted to support Al Qaida's cause, to destroy western civilization and the jewish nation.
We also had evidence that Iraq had 'weapons of mass destruction' (this is a group of weapons that includes germ warfare agents, chemical warfare agents, and certain very strong bombs including nuclear bombs).
Some people believe that the weapons were never found. This is not true. First of all, before the war began, we know that Saddam Hussein used a chemical agent called Mustard Gas to kill several hundred of his own people. Mustard Gas is a blister agent that chemically burns the skin - these burns are extremely painful and cause blisters all over the skin. The gas also gets in a persons lungs, the chemical burns the lungs, and the person usually dies in agony.
About a year and a half ago, I heard a report on the news that weapons of mass destruction had indeed been found in Iraq, but this was not widely reported.
Some people say that we are in Iraq because we want to protect our source of oil. And that is probably part of it. Oil is extremely important to how our country is run and protected. We do, however have a lot of our own oil. We just have to go out and find it. But this country was also providing a lot of money to a group who wanted to destroy our country, and we need to protect our country from people who seek to destroy it. Remember - Al Qaida came here first.

because the george bush's father was involved in a war with iraq. many people said his father didn't "finish the job" by getting saddam. but bush's father was smarter than he is and he knew if we overthrew the government of iraq chaos would ensue (cheney also admitted this in 1994).
after 9/11 bush convinced 75% of the american people that saddam hussein had something to do with us being attacked. but the real guy was osama bin laden. we never got him. but bush used to worst attack on american soil as an excuse to do something he planned to do before he was even president.
that's why.

Saddam violated the cease-fire agreement of the 1991 Persian Gulf War for more than ten years.
You probably don't know that but, it is likely not your fault.
The agreement stated, that, if the agreement was violated, there would be a resumption of hostilities.
This is one of many reasons we are in Iraq.
Many of the Allies who participated in the Persian Gulf War have not returned to our side.
Many have become pompous and arrogant, envious and unfriendly.
-We'll see what the future hands them.
Negativity is contagious.

On 9/11 we were attacked by Islamic terrorists. When you go to war with those guys you do NOT just go to war with one little group in one little country, you fight the entire middle east and all the terrorists groups peppered all over the world.Bush is trying to establish a strong democracy there in order to give the people under the tyrants rulership hope and that they may rebel against the evil dictators and side with America.
Iraq is our base of operations for that, but unfortunately Bush didnt know how to explain what he was doing, and most our politicians are too stupid to figure it out.
