Or would it be better to wear the whole outfit?

It depends on what the job is. If it's someplace casual, where people either wear uniforms or jeans to work, then it's probably okay. But if it's a more formal workplace where their dress code is business casual or business formal (you know, where guys wear suits every day) you've definitely gotta wear a jacket. If in doubt bring it, you can always take it off if necessary. It's better to be overdressed rather than underdressed.

Depends, if you going for a job at walmart probably not but at a law firm the whole outfit is needed. Generally shirt and tie is enough, though a jacket would give a better impression. Oh and pants wouldn't hurt either.

I dont know. You might want to wear pants with that.
Seriously, it really depends what kind of job you are going for. My job im at now, i showed up for the interview wearing a new pair of jeans, a nice clean sweater and some hiking shoes. Got the job. Of course that wouldnt work everywhere.

It depends on the job you are applying for. If it is any type of business/office/sales job, I would go for the jacket. If it is your first job at McDonalds, just a shirt and tie will do.

Since it's business casual, I'd skip the tie and wear nice pants and a crisp shirt. The tie takes it up a notch from "business casual" to "business".

You can't go wrong by having a jacket. I'd suggest, if you already have one, wear one.
